  4. Then there's the clue to 37 Accross, "Scrub spots, for short". SPOILER... Stop reading if you don't want the answer. SPOILER... The answer is "ORS". Even knowing the answer, it took me a minute to figure out the connection to the clue. I guess it's fair, but I thought it was an extremely difficult clue.

  6. I tried the Wall Street Journal Feb 19, 2025 crossword. Got about 75%, but then stuck.

There's many clues where either you know the fact or you'll never get it (e.g. "Chief of the Iowa tribe until 1834"). I suppose this is fair for a challenging crossword.

There's many 2-word answers that aren't flagged in the clue. Is this fair or just lazy writing?

  8. PRODUCTION NOTE:

I’m streamlining my Mastodon activity and starting some new projects, so I might give up this one, which has only 33 followers.

Does anyone want to take it over? I can give you access to the CMS or you can take over the whole thing and run it your way.

It's interesting looking at the clues and explaining them, and it's good practice, but I really don't want to spend the time on it any more.

  9. Several years ago, I coined the phrase "crossword puzzle word" to describe a word that I know the correct spelling and meaning of, but essentially only see it used in crossword puzzles. It may even be the case that crossword puzzles are the only reason I know of the word at all.

  10. Thought I scored a new Sunday Personal Best on thus week’s #NYTXW Sunday #Crossword, but I only tied my personal best. Nonetheless, I’m thrilled as I’m usually pretty slow on the larger Sunday #CrosswordPuzzles 🤓

  11. This is exceptional, even for me. The Sunday puzzles usually take me at least 45 minutes. Yes, I'm proud of myself. 😁 #crosswordpuzzles

  12. Even if you like #crosswords, you may not be aware we’re living in something of a golden age of #crosswordpuzzles with so many people creating so many interesting puzzles, some you have to pay for, but many are free!
