This is a huge win for the #Internet and #InternetAccess in general! The movie / TV industry wants to make Internet Service Providers (ISPs) responsible for policing all their subscribers and making sure they aren't downloading pirated content - and responsible for blocking those subscribers.

But... *that's not how the Internet works!*

There could be 10s, 100s, or 1000s of people behind a single IP address - all who would be blocked - but not now.

  4. Yhdysvaltain korkeimmalta oikeudelta merkittävä ennakkopäätös: Operaattorit eivät ole vastuussa netitliittymien käyttäjien piratismista

Oikeusjuttu kesti kaiken kaikkiaan yli 8 vuotta. Siinä mediateollisuutta edustanut Sony syytti amerikkalaista operaattoria Coxia tekijänoikeusrikoksista, koska se ei mm. katkaissut asiakkaidensa nettiyhteyksiä, kun niiden havaittiin levittävän laitonta materiaalia verkkoon.

  5. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of Cox in its long-running lawsuit with the music industry. More than a win for the ISP, the decision could reshape the DMCA.

  6. The Supremes sided with an ISP instead of the music industry, ruling that Cox isn’t responsible for what its users do.

Back in 2018 Sony Music, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and dozens of other rightsholders sued Cox, arguing the company ignored over 163,000 infringement notices about subscribers illegally downloading more than 10,000 copyrighted songs.

The labels pointed to evidence that a #Cox manager overseeing piracy compliance told his team to “F the DMCA.”

A jury sided with the labels in 2019, awarding $1 billion. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals partially overturned that verdict in 2024, throwing out the vicarious liability finding but keeping the contributory infringement ruling and ordering a retrial.

The Supreme Court took up the case last June and has now reversed the remaining contributory liability finding entirely.

    Fuck the #DMCA indeed.

  11. I stand with Cox Communications in its fight against the RIAA, who want to cry about alleged theft of copyrighted works that the pirates wouldn’t have paid for without piracy, and might eventually pay for with piracy. The imagined billions they lose to piracy literally do not exist.

Also, have they sued #Spotify for stuffing streams with AI-generated music to avoid paying real human artists? How about we attack the real villain here!

  15. Fuck #Utah. Fuck #Cox.

They are creating fucking prisons, for citizens. They are blaming the people without housing, people fighting addiction and people struggling with mental health.

    Fucking "Accountability Centers"...

Oh, but these aren't Nazi concentration camps, because we're "helping" them!!! Cox is a lying pile of shit. That finding will mysteriously dry up the second the locks are installed.

  16. Ok y'all...the story on the #ammo that theoretically killed #kirk keeps changing.

First the #WallStreetJournal reported that there was "#trans ideology" engraved on the bullets. You know what that was? "#TRN," a stamp found on ammunition produced by #Turan.

Then, Utah Gov. Spencer #Cox said investigators found one fired and three unfired bullet casings.

According to Cox, the single fired bullet casing read, "Notices bulges OWO what's this?" Three unfired bullet casings read, "Hey fascist! Catch!" with an up arrow, a right arrow and three down arrows, "Oh bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao" and "If you read this you are gay LMAO."

Y'all, not for nothing, but the casing for a .30.06 is 2.4" or 63mm from tip to base. That's not a lot of room to write all that, just sayin.

That the kid is an meming edgelord tho? That tracks.
