@mf_magazine Until this afternoon I hadn't heard of #Cospaia, now I am feeling nostalgia for it.
"The inhabitants of Cospaia ... preferred to base their independence on the total freedom of the inhabitants, all of whom were holders of sovereignty, and it was not entrusted to any organ of power, unlike in states... Cospaia did not have a formal government or official legal system. There were no jails or prisons, and there was no standing army or police force."

The Republic of Cospaia was a small microstate, in what is now Italy, that was independent from 1440 to 1826.
It unexpectedly gained independence in 1440 after a pope sold territory to the Republic of Florence and a small strip of land went unmentioned in the sale.
