    Would you like to help plan, organize, and create the Pacific Northwest’s premier science-fiction and fantasy convention? Norwescon is always looking for volunteers, and our monthly Convention Committee planning meetings are a great way to get involved!     Staff Photo

    The staff photo will be taken directly after the staff meeting, probably around 2:30 or 3 p.m. Be there or risk missing it! This photo will appear in convention materials.

    Post-Meeting Social

    Our annual holiday party potluck will be held in the DoubleTree’s Presidential Suite (1360) from 3:30 (-ish; after the meeting ends and the photo is taken) until 9 p.m. Friends and family are welcome! We will provide heavy appetizers and non-alcholic drinks; please bring a dessert, appetizer, beverage, and/or anything special you want to drink or share.

    Back by popular demand is our White Elephant book exchange! Bring a wrapped book or bookish item, tagged with the general genre. The gift exchange will start about 5 p.m.

Norwescon is always looking for volunteers, and our monthly Convention Committee planning meetings are a great way to get involved! Come pull back the curtain, meet the masterminds behind the event, and find out where your particular talents can be put to use!

    Meeting Details

    It’s that time of year again! No, not autumn, not quite yet. It’s time to start planning the next Norwescon!

    Our first meeting is next Saturday, the 14th, with our new meeting schedule:

    • 11 a.m.–1 p.m.: Department breakouts
    • 1–3 p.m.: ConCom meeting
    • 3 p.m.: Executive meeting (all welcome)
    • Immediately after: Social

    We’re mixing things up a bit with breakouts first, followed by the ConCom meeting, the Executive meetings, and then the social. Zoom link will be available from 1 p.m. onward, and will be emailed closer to the meeting date.

    If you are joining us virtually and need to activate your camera or microphone during the meeting, we ask that you respect all of your fellow staff members and refrain from broadcasting inappropriate imagery, symbols, or language. If you need a neutral virtual background, a Norwescon background image is available on our website.

    Catherynne M. Valente is the NYT bestselling author of over forty books of science fiction, fantasy, and horror, including Deathless, Space Opera, The Past Is Red, and the Fairyland novels. She is the winner of the Hugo, Locus, Nebula, Sturgeon, and Lambda awards, among others, and has been shortlisted for the World Fantasy and Ursula K LeGuin awards. She lives on a small island off the coast of Maine with her child and several troublingly large cats.

    Artist Guest of Honor

    Wayne Barlowe is a science fiction and fantasy author and artist who has created images for books, film, video games and galleries and written and illustrated a number of art books including Expedition, Barlowe’s Guide to Extraterrestrials, Barlowe’s Guide to Fantasy, Barlowe’s Inferno, Brushfire, The Alien Life of Wayne Barlowe and An Alphabet of Dinosaurs. Expedition aired as the Discovery Channel special, Alien Planet. A board game based on Expedition will be released in 2025. His video game concept work includes Dante’s Inferno, Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War. His film designs can be seen in Blade 2, Galaxy Quest, Hellboy 1 and 2, Harry Potter 3 and 4, Avatar and Pacific Rim. He has written two novels, God’s Demon and its sequel The Heart of Hell and is at work on the third and final novel, Lucifer’s Soul. His artbook, Psychopomp, accumulating 30 years of his hell paintings and drawings, was published in 2021. Psychopomp II is in the works as is The Wildlife of Hell.
