Here is my "Unpopular on Mastodon" toot of the day.
I dislike Banksy.
Although I am often (not always) in sympathy with the messages his work conveys, these are often presented in a form that is dull, hectoring, or disagreeably sentimental -- what we might term radical twee.
The populist "you know what you like and it's not that museum stuff" current that has marked his career is uncomfortably close to the right wing cultural politics of which he imagines himself a leading opponent.
I also dislike graffiti in general. This Jonathan Jones article from a decade ago remains on point:
Please don't tell me that this symptom of urban blight is somehow "progressive". Instead of drooling over Robin Gunnigham's private organization...

Greenroots Gallery: Art, Nature & Creative Business in One Space
I still remember my first visit. It was 2023, and I walked into Greenroots for a meeting with fellow creatives alongside the owner. From the moment I set foot there, I knew this space was different. There’s a quiet energy that surrounds you as soon as you arrive—something that feels both inspiring and peaceful at the same time. That first encounter left a mark, one that I still carry with me every time I return. Located at Shop No 1 at Greenroots, right next to Beauty and Nail Adventure […] -

This sounds like a sweep to me. Why do these landowners think it’s safe to build profit generating housing (apartments) on toxic land?

Cute Signs (10 Photos)
Let’s be honest: most street signs are just there to tell us what not to do. But every once in a while, you run into one that actually has a soul. As we’re all trying to figure out our path for the new year, these 10 signs, ranging from a “library” built strictly for neighborhood dogs to a blunt wake-up call on a brick wall, remind us to stop overthinking and start looking around. It’s the kind of “guerrilla kindness” that turns a boring sidewalk into something worth stopping […] -
Real Art Feels Fantastic (8 Photos)
This selection moves between large-scale murals, playful characters, and quiet interventions that change how a place feels. A towering pigeon wraps an apartment block, a Smurf tends a fragile plant inside a painted shed, and a giant child crouches forward offering a rose. You’ll also find a dog resting across a wall in Italy, a girl reading beside her painted twin in Laos, cartoon figures reclaiming a neglected bus stop in Brazil, a floral mural climbing a concrete tower in Switzerland, […]https://streetartutopia.com/2025/12/27/real-art-feels-fantastic/

The community center from a nearby neighborhood organized an urban mural open workshop where artists from around the world worked with the neighbors, especially the local kids, to fill the streets with art. This is one of the most impressive pieces, it’s made from reclaimed ceramic tiles. :blobfoxwhoaa:

Funny Signs (8 Photos)
Across parks, streets, and city corners, humor finds its way — not through grand murals, but through small, clever signs that catch you off guard and make you smile. From a “Dog Library” offering sticks to share, to a poster reminding you to “Have a great day,” these creations turn ordinary moments into something brighter. Mixed among them are thoughtful questions and playful edits to street signs — proof that art and wit can live anywhere, even on a sidewalk or a stop […] -
