A computer thing that defied explanation and flummoxed me for a day turned out to be very quickly resolved… once I knew what I was doing. I was just ready to give up when inspiration struck.
Perhaps this is the same logic as “always finding the item you were searching for in the last place you looked” (of course, why would you continue to search after you found it).
