  1. DOWN TO A SUNLESS SEA
Source: A foolish Old Coder and not LLM
Illustration: GenAI of Elon in the Sky

    AI is Satan
    So, Fedi AI is hatin'
    To most, that seems fine
Few that are sane for AI pine

Flames the Old Coder doesn't seek
This rhyme is tongue in cheek
    He sees AI both sides
    Does not totally derides

But the AI of right now
    Is a world-eating monster cow
    Cthulhu, give up your seat
The cow is the monster to beat

    AI the economy will smash
    After the crash
Billionaires at the bottom of the sea
The place where they need to be

Mad Max 2 world with burning tires
    Every institution set to expires
Crushed by AI and the orange toad
It's a colorful story and frightening load

The world's great age begins anew
    The golden years return
Yeah, right, that's not going to ensue
    It's all going to burn

Meet me on the other side
We'll be in rags, but we'll find our stride
    Let's collect the pieces
Hand them to our nephews and nieces

There will be a bit of this and that
AI will be there but with a small hat
Not much gas, but hopefully the Net
I'd rather have the Net, you bet

    Little will have been learned
A few more years may have been earned
Then the rest of the bill will come due
It's going to be warm, you know this is true

After that, it'll be down to the sunless sea
We won't be there, not you or me
Twice five miles of infertile ground
No bird will sing, there won't be a sound

  5. Virtual cats are all thats
    You get the meow
    without worrying how
    to stay alive
    Into #Caturday you can dive

    You can observe the purr
    without the IRL fur
For most people, both are fine
but if for allergy relief you pine
You can have one without the other
    So let there be
    kittens to see

    Add their patient mother
    Cats that open doors
    Or race across floors
Cats that are buddies with mice
Or think that ducks are nice

    It's all good
    in the online cat neighborhood.

  8. Hold the phone
    You can roll your own
    Not just fork or patch
You can build it from scratch
    Try that with Windows
Not as simple as you'd suppose
Linux is a genre and not a single thing
If you'd like to make the angels sing
You can be the one the book to write
    It's out of sight

    No, that isn't LLM.

  11. @Aphelion : You're right. There's a poem at the end below if you click "Read more" and scroll down.

Others: No, the poem isn't AI. Nor is the illustration. It's getting old to be asked that repeatedly. The poem was composed a decade ago in a text message debate about how to respond to an abuse situation. It was extemporaneous and simply typed out in seconds.

I'm an autistic who happens to be able to do that regardless of #autism. An objective friend told me that my circuits had been scrambled in the situation that the poem alludes to. Anyway, the rhymes simply started in 2012. Aphelion : Now you know a bit of the history behind my doggerel.

@LoganFive : I understand that the poll is intended to be tongue in cheek or light in tone. However, you've touched on a topic that could help victims of #abuse and other crimes if it's explored a little. I hope that you won't mind if I do so.

I'm unable to select just one option from the survey list because the most productive path varies. This said, it isn't solely to meditate or to seek therapy or to pray or other steps which set aside the falsehoods that somebody has told and the damage that they've done.

In my case, not damage just to me personally. In the past 1.5 decades I've stumbled into situations where what's happened to me happens to others as well. I believe that steps need to be taken in situations that affect the general public.

But some of the alternatives listed in the survey might be seen as ill-mannered. They will certainly get one talked about, but I no longer care about that. The correct answer, I think, is to address situations on a case by case basis.

If somebody is simply mentally ill or different and poor conduct isn't willful, one should proceed in a positive spirit. This shouldn't be somebody that one feels the need to hate. I've succeeded in the "friends" approach multiple times in this context.

If somebody is an attorney, and one digs a bit, it sometimes turns out that they're trading sexual favors for legal services. Or they're not properly licensed. Or they've assumed that other rules don't apply to them. I've actually managed to notch the jobs of a few attorneys. Not nearly enough, but it's a positive delight when something turns up.

Or, if somebody lives in a small town, one can snail-mail colorful postcards to one-quarter to one-half of the residents depending on different factors. The attached illustration is from one of the postcards that I've sent myself. It's colorful enough that it was guaranteed people would read the other side. Others: No, the illustration isn't GenAI. Stop asking that.

And one can write a book. I helped a friend in #PTSD to do that 5 years ago. The PTSD was related to abuse. If somebody expresses interest, I'll post a link to the book.

The book was decades overdue and so was the police report that my PTSD friend ultimately made at my suggestion. But my friend felt so much better after these two steps. So, actually, add a book and a police report to the list.

One of the most colorful people in the book, a grifter with an epic past, left us voicemail threatening us with "the police" for telling her part of the story. This has become a bit of a martial art for me. Often what one should do is turn things right around. In this instance, I posted the voicemail that the woman had left us with some notes related to her past. Boy, she shut up right quick.

And one can write a poem. Here is one of mine. It's from my chapbook, #CoderSongs. This is part of a debate in text messages related to retaliation. Victor's position was that one can make the "choice" not to retaliate.

Others: Once again, this isn't #LLM output. Nor is the illustration GenAI output. Please stop asking.

    DO NOT THEIR CHOICES TAKE

    <OldCoder> Did you arrive safely?
    <Victor> I did
<OldCoder> This is because you made the choice not to be attacked by bandits. It is a sensible choice.
<Victor> I believe I tried to be in moment

    1. If in the moment means float
float is good for a boat
but do not talk by rote

    2. The world is both us and others
    You can choose your brothers
but choices too they must make
even if it is in Hell to bake
You must not from them their choices take

    3. If in the fire lake they wish to bake
    do not their choices take
Let them choose and then awake

    4. Their choices are theirs and theirs alone
It's time now to hang up the phone
