  1. June 6 is a national day of action to de-ICE Citizens Bank

While most major banks have cut ties with CoreCivic and The GEO Group, Citizens Bank is deepening its financial support for these companies, which are already holding more than half of the immigrants currently in ICE detention across the country.

Even as it publicly touts its commitment to “strengthening our communities,” Citizens Bank has played a key role in helping GEO and CoreCivic access more than $2.5 billion in financing, some of it approved earlier this year. This comes as the companies face a mountain of allegations, including forced labor and wrongful deaths due to understaffing and medical neglect at their facilities.

**Join the De-ICE Citizens Bank Coalition and thousands of people across the country on June 6 to raise the volume on calls for the bank to stop lending to for-profit ICE prison companies.** Organizers, you can get the details and a toolkit with background information, handouts, a press release and more [here](mobilize.us/deicecitizens/c/ma).

  5. The corporate enablers of the #ICECrackdown

How #Amazon, AT&T, and #CitizensBank are profiting from the administration’s mass deportation campaign.

Excerpts: "#AmazonWebServices (#AWS) hosts the database, known as Investigative Case Management (#ICM), that ICE uses to target and deport #immigrants. ICM, which was created by #Palantir, 'integrates a vast ecosystem of public and private data to track down immigrants and, in many cases, deport them.' The data includes 'a person’s immigration history, family relationships, personal connections, addresses, phone records, biometric traits, and other information.' Through Palantir, AWS receives millions of dollars annually from the federal government to host ICM. Last April, the Trump administration awarded Palantir a new $30 million contract to create '#ImmigrationOS,' which is 'a new tool to provide [ICE] with enhanced capabilities to support deportation efforts.' ImmigrationOS is likely hosted on AWS, which has a strategic partnership with Palantir."

    [...]

"Numerous financial institutions, including JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, SunTrust, BNP Paribas, and Fifth Third Bancorp, pledged in 2019 to stop working with the #PrivatePrisonIndustry. (#BankOfAmerica and SunTrust have since 'softened their policy statements to allow financing again for detention companies in some circumstances.') But #CitizensFinancialGroup, which operates #CitizensBank, has continued to provide financing for private prison construction. In July 2025, Citizens provided a $450 million revolving credit line to #GEOGroup. Earlier, in March 2025, Citizens underwrote $500 million in bonds for #CoreCivic."

    [...]

"In September 2024, AT&T inked a 10-year, $147 million contract with ICE’s parent agency, #DHS, to 'provide mission-critical communications services.' The agreement provides ICE and other DHS subdivisions with 'end-to-end voice priority over the AT&T commercial wireless network.' In August, the Trump administration awarded AT&T an $11 million no-bid contract to provide ICE with 'data analytics and support services.' "

  10. #Banking #Outage Leaves Customers Without Account Access

Updated: May 2, 2025 By Robert Farrington

    Excerpt:

    "Banking Grinds To A Halt

"#Fiserv supplies the infrastructure behind many major financial institutions’ digital platforms. When its systems fail, the effects cascade quickly across the financial ecosystem.

"Banks affected include major players such as #Ally, #BankOfAmerica, #TDBank, #CapitalOne, #Synchrony, and #CitizensBank, as well as #RegionalBanks and local institutions like #NorthwestBank, #SunflowerBank, and #FarmersNationalBank in Ohio. #CreditUnions such as Navy Federal. Even money transfer service #Zelle appears to be impacted.

"Customers have reported a range of issues: locked accounts, unavailable balances, non-functioning transfers, and missed direct deposits.

"One IT staffer at a bank impacted by the outage shared on Reddit, 'It's been a nightmare. ACH files, Zelle, BillPay, and more have all been impacted.'

"Fiserv has not confirmed what the cause of the incident is. According to reports, the outage allegedly appears to have originated from problems with its core processing software (DNA) and related services like Nautilus (document and content management) and Payment Exchange (real-time transfers).

"While some functionality has returned for select services, many banks are still experiencing intermittent issues as of Friday afternoon.

"We reached out to Fiserv for comment but as of publication had not heard back. As of now, Fiserv has not released a public timeline for full restoration or details of the cause of the incident.

"This incident is more than just an inconvenience - it highlights how fragile the digital banking experience can be when so many institutions rely on a single vendor.

"Fiserv supports everything from transaction processing to statement delivery. When one system fails, it's not just a front-end website that goes dark. Payments don’t go through. Payroll deposits don’t arrive. Consumers lose access to their money."

  15. Called back again in the morning, first person I reached put me on hold for many minutes, then I got transferred to a second person who claimed to have made the necessary change so I would stop receiving junk-mail; we'll see if it works.
The whole call took 17 minutes. If they had a f*cking unsubscribe form on their web site I could have accomplished this in less than a minute.

  16. Just tried to get #CitizensBank to stop sending me junk (paper, not e-) mail. Called the number for this listed in their privacy policy. Kept being asked by the automated system to enter my account number. I don't have one, I'm a _former_ customer. No instructions given for what to do if you don't have an account number. I just kept hitting 0 until it stopped asking, at which point it informed me they couldn't handle my call right now and I had to call back in the morning.

  17. I’m always interested in how bike companies are adding financing as an option for their customers. I saw a Citizens Pay ad (which I had never heard of) for Trek’s online store with “0% financing”. So I clicked through and found this buried really deep in the fine print… 29.99% APR on purchases “after the promotional period”. This kind of predatory lending should be illegal. #BuyerBeware #TrekBikes #CitizensPay #CitizensBank #PersonalFinance #ebike #PredatoryLending #BikeTooter
