  1. So like this a thing I'm going to try and do atleast once a week. My idea is I take technology I dislike and come up with one reason why its good. The exception to this will be GenAI. I'll be starting Carrier-grade NAT(CGN-NAT) or carrier is the bane of self hosters and gamers.

In a nutshell it is a hack, that allows
#ISPs to use one IPv4 address for multiple connections. The end result means that your public facing IP and your real IP differ. It basically allows your ISP to combat IP address exhaustion. This basically breaks your ability to selfhost since your public IP does not translate to a real device.

There is however a good reason to want
#CGN-NAT, #privacy. Because multiple connections are mapped to one public IP, governments can not actually get a real person from the IP. It is such a big issue that #eurpol has a call to end it(1). There's also a paper by iirc the London police for the same but I can't find it.

Basically, your ISP is a cheap bastard who's trying to avoid running out of IP addresses and as a result you get privacy as a bonus.
#ACAB and if they don't like something, there's probably a reason you should want it
