Odd that RFK, in his laudable efforts to protect children, doesn't see the greatest danger to the young - the fact that they spend their lives in cars, having little exercise compared to previous generations, and not learning independence and genuine careful judgment the way that we who spent our lives on bicycles did; we knew pretty well how to judge danger, and because we moved in a sea of other children we were far safer 1/2

As the world posits every conceivable reason why Trump won, we still haven't elevated the cost of car ownership to the forefront of the discussion.
Owner addicts don't want to hear about it!

@rnzbot_nz That’s sad. At the end of the article it’s got this alarming passage:
“According to government figures, New Zealand has one of the highest rates of childhood driveway deaths and injuries in the world.
On average, a child is hospitalised every two weeks after being injured by a vehicle in a driveway, and five children die every year.”
I don’t understand why this doesn’t push NZ towards more sensible transport networks (instead of “more roads and faster speeds”).

Just your annual reminder that if you want to kill someone in NZ the way to do it is by driving. https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/wellington/132178677/driver-who-killed-wellington-pedestrian-had-previously-hit-and-injured-motorcyclist A 9 month license suspension. And they already had a conviction for injuring someone with their car. #caraddiction

There's a lot to like in #Warwickshire's #LocalTransportPlan - a lot of tweaks and adjustments that I think need to be made to remove some inconsistencies and strengthen commitments, but a lot of positives... but then there's this little nugget, tucked in at the end of the final policy of the Motor Vehicle Strategy.
I guess #CarAddiction is a hard habit to break.
