Hi @shinykatie I don't know Joel, but unfortunately he doesn't seem to know physics.
Every book I have on ponds mentions to build a #CapillaryBreak. The illustration is from a book on #pond construction.
After a first fail, we went big with the next pond in 2015.
8 yrs on, we have no problems with water loss (not the most glamorous shot from this grey, rainy morning).
You can see the capillary break which was covered in stones.
Most #TVgardeners get it wrong and ignore basic construction rules.
