    @nik @amethyst One example of the Gray 10/Gray 100 pairing is my personal site/blog:

    For my Wait Wait Stats Project sites, I use a slightly different set:

    - Light Mode: White and Gray 100 for text and background
    - Dark Mode: Gray 10 and Gray 100 for text and background
    - Classic/Retro Mode: Black and #c0c0c0 for text and background

    The last one has a reduced contrast ratio of 11.5:1, but that was a compromise I made for a specific aesthetic that I was going for.

    @vkc I've been mulling over your post and started to tinker around with a more retro middle mode design.

    I'm using `#c0c0c0` as the background color, which I think is the default background color from Netscape Navigator 3-ish? I also switched to a serif font as well.

    If I do commit to it, there are definitely places to improve upon.

    I've always thought of it as "intentionally unrefined," in that raw materials are prominent, things are not painted, shapes are uncomplicated, etc. I think that does cover a lot of 60s & 70s architecture, but it also feels like it overlaps a lot with Futurist designs of the 1910s-30s. I imagine a truly brutalist web design would use a lot of #C0C0C0 and Times New Roman 😅
