the days of #rave and #Britpop were far from perfect - there was still #racism and #misogyny -but #hedonism was enough of a distraction as it was harder to hate people you were also partying with, and the lifestyle took a lot of spoons and energy (to the point neoliberal governments turned somewhat of a blind eye to it as it distracted youth from other forms of activism, especially as raves became more car-dependent so the partyfolk split to some extent from the eco-warriors by the late 1990s..
