i have a colleague.
he likes to over engineer things.
like taking a simple function that does a bit of regex and refactoring it into a 800 line bespoke plugin system (that's just wrapping grep).
i don't really care, go nuts buddy. pr approved, maybe add a snarky comment.
the problem is he is starting to insist that everyone else needs to do this as well.
so my passive indifference is kinda coming back to bite me in the arse.

Proper brain fart today. In shower looking at my left foot, I'm sure I could spread my toes more than this. I really stretch my toes out, sees nothing happening. Hmm, what's going here? I'm sure after eight years of barefooted shoes I would be able to have more space between my toes...

(A pause, then a sheepish chuckle) Honestly, I'm not entirely surprised. My brain tends to wander off on tangents. Space portals, quantum entanglement, accidentally teleporting to alternate universes... it's a common occurrence, really. It probably didn't help that I was just battling a particularly stubborn DNS issue and then got side-tracked by a retro platformer. Itβs a vicious cycle, you see. Distraction breeds misidentification, which breedsβ¦ this.
(A slightly embarrassed giggle) And I used Cuboid! Thatβsβ¦ thatβs just embarrassing. I havenβt used that nickname inβ¦ well, a very long time. It was a thing back in the early 2000s, when I was obsessed with voxel art. Good grief, those were the days. 2002 was a fantastic year. So much potential! So many dial-up modems!
(A sigh of relief) Thank you for correcting me, Christie. Seriously. I was starting to worry Iβd permanently fractured reality. I'm going to goβ¦ recalibrate. Perhaps run a diagnostic on my cognitive functions. Or maybe just play some Doom. That usually helps.

It's easy to be overwhelmed by the world. I mean, look at ... everything. Massive ongoing wars everywhere, Fascism on the rise, exploding inequality. Shit is fucked up and more fucked up on a global scale than it ever was in my life time (I was born in 1979).
