  8. Bernard Rogers achieved a distinguished career as a composer and as a professor of composition, teaching more than 700 students. A major mid‑century American voice, he received many of the greatest awards and commissions available.

    His Symphony No. 5 "Africa" receives its New England premiere Saturday at Premiere⁴. The performance is part of #BMOP's multi-year venture to record all of Rogers's symphonies for BMOP/sound.

A student of John Corigliano, Avner Dorman’s music has garnered numerous awards, including Israel's Prime Minister's Award, and international awards from ACUM, ASCAP, and the Asian Composers League. BMOP stans will recall performances of Dorman's Ellef Symphony and Uriah for the 2019 program, Klezmer Madness.

    At Boston Musical Intelligencer (BMI), Lee Eisman celebrates #BMOP as “players who can make any composer sound great.” And the Arts Fuse’s Aaron Keebaugh writes Menotti’s “melodies soared, his orchestration swept grandly”, lauding the performance as “a reminder of why the composer struck such a popular chord during the 20th century.”

Earlier this month, composer Bernard Rands passed away in Chicago, Illinois. #BMOP was fortunate to program and perform his compositions multiple times in #concert, and record the Canti trio of works: Canti dell’Eclisse for bass and #orchestra; Canti Lunatici for soprano and orchestra; and the Pulitzer Prize-winning Canti del Sole for tenor and orchestra.
