CW: BLFC Roundup (2/2)
This (Friday) morning was a bit of a hurry to pack all the things and check out. We enjoyed lunch with some critters before catching the shuttle to the airport, where we’re currently waiting as we write this. Our flight to Denver lands at 7:00 Mountain Time and we should be home about an hour after that.
As for how we feel about how the con went, it was certainly a tale of two halves. At the start of the con, it felt like we were very alone and isolated, like all the groups we thought we were part of had moved on and recombined without us. It specifically felt like we were being ghosted or avoided on a couple of occasions, to the point we were wondering if we’d done something wrong or if we’d made a mistake in going to the con at all. At the end, though, we were hanging out with creatures somewhat regularly, which really helped. While we are generally introverted, we also really like being with folks when we can!
Sure, there were a few missed connections and opportunities; there always are. But we made a few new friends during the con, reconnected with someone we hadn’t seen in nearly a decade, and we’re looking forward to keeping in touch with them. Ultimately, that’s important to us and, by that metric, the con was fantastic.
Now, who’s going to MFF, FWA, or next BLFC? 😁

CW: BLFC Roundup (1/2)
BLFC was certainly one of the cons of all time. 🎉
We arrived Sunday morning and got an early check-in, which immediately led to showers, naps, and resting up for the rest of the con. We said hello to a couple of folks, mostly in the reg line, but it was pretty quiet on day zero.
Monday started with an off-site trip, organized by MagPi, to go skydiving. Since none of our usual characters are birds, we ‘had’ to earn our wings another way. It was a heck of an experience, and some of us really enjoyed it, though one we don’t think we’ll want to do again. If nothing else, we need lose weight and gain flexibility before another dive; it was very difficult to get out of the plane.
Monday evening was the macro meet, which was another smashing success. We didn’t take any pictures because we were busily chatting with all the folks we hadn’t seen in a while, but that hour disappeared very quickly. Immediately after, we were a contestant on furry 15-to-1, in which we aced the first round but missed all three questions we faced in the second round. Still, the game was fun to be a part of. Our other plans for the evening fell through, sadly, so as soon as our last roommate arrived around midnight we went right to bed.
Tuesday was the Dealer’s Den opening, so we went through and picked up a few nice things for ourselves, including a variety of squishable creatures from the adult area to serve as desk toys. Little else happened until a room party later in the evening, though the party was a chance to enjoy some very pleasant company for a couple hours.
Wednesday was a struggle to get out of bed, if we’re being honest. We were feeling kinda lonely because, unlike past BLFCs, we didn’t really have a group to hang out with. Quite a few folks we expected to see didn’t make it this year; we can’t blame them for not wanting to fly into the US given the state of political madness here. There was a paw-focused room party that led to us enjoying plenty of time as a doormat, which is something we haven’t experienced in way too long. That was certainly a highlight of the con for us. After that party, we were invited to join folks (mostly yinglets) for pizza, which we happily accepted. We overheard discussions of another room party—one that we later learned we weren’t supposed to know about and our lack of an invite wasn’t an accident. We eventually went and enjoyed hanging out with creatures, though, including dozing off on a very comfy kobold for about an hour.
Thursday was devoid of panels that had our interest; we didn’t get out of the room until early afternoon and spent much of the day wandering around to see folks where we could. This led to a (sadly short) art/hangout session near the con’s gaming areas, including a doodle of Merc from Blocky that we’ll hopefully remember to post sometime soon. We then had the unusual experience of being invited to multiple room parties—one in the afternoon and one late in the evening—which definitely made things better. Getting to hang out with folks is the whole point of going to cons with us; getting invited is a clear signal folks really do wanna spend time with us. Sure, we may have been up until 3 AM again at the last party we went to, but none of us wanted the con to end, so can you blame us?
