A few months ago, I ran out of caraway seeds and struggled to find some in the shops. The local supermarkets didn't have them, could not find in Indian grocers, but did find them in Korean grocers. Yay.
Then I found a recipe for mutton tehari that listed an ingredient called shahi jeera. Looking it up, it was caraway. Cool. Very tasty tehari, BTW; cooking it again tonight!
So to my confusion, why didn't I find caraway in South Asian grocers? I just Duck Duck Went, and found an explainer for jeera (cumin) vs shahi jeera (caraway) a.k.a. black cumin. Awesome.

Armed with this info, I just stalked a few online Indian grocery shops and yes, they sell caraway as black cumin / shahi jeera. Yay! Will be able to buy in a better size, like 400 grams.
Oh, and caraway "seeds" are in fact very tiny fruit.
