The largest flock of Common crane (Trane, Kraanvogel, Grus grus) I've ever seen just flew over (Jutland, Denmark).
They are SO LOUD!
Our new rooster, Poofy, was clearly distracted by them.

This is quite faint, but can anybody help me figure out what bird (or other animal???) this is? We've had them out in the evening for the last several weeks. I've tried using Merlin, which is usually really good, but it hasn't been able to identify it. Perhaps they're not commonly in this region?
We're in the Pacific Northwest, about an hour and a half east of Vancouver, for reference.

Bird and Bird Sound

I now am almost 100% sure that the Eur. Magpies next door are sometimes making the exact same rasping sound as the Eur. Jay. They almost had me fooled this morning, but from now on I will be suspicious of Jay sounds when there are Magpies around.
I can't immediately find that sound confirmed on xeno-canto.org - but I also find it difficult to search for a precise sound on xeno-canto.
Trying to get it confirmed is yet another quest for the coming birding times 🙂

2/3… #patina from age. Again, less car noise is better. Its part of the reason people #travel to these locations.
Full body #walking through these environments (ie. with ski-style sticks) is found to be most beneficial.
Studies have also shown that #birdSounds, when not combined with car or human sounds is restorative. And time spent in the yard helps people live longer. Children that grow up without #greenSpace are at greater risk of developmental issues.
