  4. Really wild to have the piece Cecilia Danell and I have collaborated on, ‘DISTURBANCE – Heracleum Mantegazzianum’, published by Minor Literature[s]! The essay is an ode to the little-liked giant hogweed and to the writings of gardener philosopher Gilles Clément. Massive thanks to the editors.

  11. The thesis of Amirahvelda Priyono’s new photo essay for Circa, commissioned by Brian Curtin, is straightforward: conflict is similar the world over; not denying the specifics of a given struggle, art-related visual imagery is a powerful communicator across cultures.

  32. As I’ve experimented with making “memory objects” from works of art I’ve seen, I’ve come to feel that time and repetition are crucial ingredients. When I try again with the same object, or let more time pass, I see a melding of self and object, a third thing which is neither me nor the work.

  33. I found the center of the gallery floor, closed my eyes, and spun slowly—first clockwise, then counterclockwise, then clockwise again until my sense of orientation began to fade. I held my arm out in front of me, and opened my eyes. My hand pointed directly to a vermillion red pot with a crawl glaze. I recognized it immediately from an earlier walk through the gallery. It felt a little bit fated: did I choose it, or did it choose me?

  39. Dear Friends,

I’ve been thinking about travel, and the way in which it offers shifts of perspective.

I recently carried this question into Renee Gladman’s show of drawings at Artists Space.

  40. Dear Friends,

A few months ago I went to see the restoration of Eva Hesse’s Expanded Expansion and was surprised by my own response. As some of you know, I spent a couple of years in the apartment where Eva Hesse once lived at 134 Bowery, dreaming up possibilities for what art could be and soaking in aspects of her spirit. More of that story is in my book, if you’re curious.
