Today another email leak I could trace. This time from #Aranet (https://aranet.com) which I ordered from a few month ago.
Got an email telling me the usual scam where there was a tentative of delivery that failed and that need rescheduling.
The recipient email address (me) included the unique alias I created when ordering at Aranet and that I didn't use anywhere else. However the leak is probably coming from their delivery partner than directly them. -

Ordering one this week! We did a test once via some Canadian organization and they simply said, SAFE. But we have a 200 year old country home with a deepish basement, and lots of friends with much more airtight houses than us. Figure we can share the device around.

Ich war am Wochenende im Theater. Es war sehr schön. Diesmal hab ich daran gedacht, den Aranet CO2-Sensor nicht an der Garderobe abzugeben sondern in den Saal mitzunehmen.
Das Maximum zu Beginn der Vorstellung im Publikum waren 5.693 ppm. Der Wert war während meines gesamten Aufenthalts im Gebäude nie unter 2.800 ppm.
Das ist halt ein bisschen ungesund. Und auch schade, wenn sich das Publikum schlechter konzentrieren kann und immer wieder ein Gähnen unterdrücken muss.

After almost 2 years (711 days) the Varta batteries in my #Aranet CO2 Monitor died.
Not bad with extended Bluetooth range enabled for a year. I guess without the extended range battery life would be much much longer, but 2 years is good enough for me, at least I get data without gaps.

Dīvaini, ka Aranet4 var glabāt tikai 7 dienu vēsturi iekārtā (ar 2 minūšu intervālu) un 30 dienu vēsturi telefona aplikācijā.
Tie dati taču nekādu vietu neaizņem.Vai arī nav uztaisījuši pietiekami ātru to datu apstrādi un ierobežojums ir tāpēc, lai to nemanītu?

I enabled extended Bluetooth for the #HomeAssistant integration via #Shelly Plug Bluetooth Proxy or what it is called.This little thing is so useful! Even my son notifies me about the red status now 😂

@EmbodiedEthics This app is fantastic. Very easy to use. I don't go into indoor public spaces often, but when I do, I always try to bring my Aranet CO2 monitor and submit a reading. It's been great seeing more U.S. measurements on the map but we still need a lot more users to catch up with Germany! 😁

Last night I went to an event at the venue where my local Queer Club takes place. I took CO2 readings with my #Aranet, did some estimates of the room volume, and measured the flow rate of the filter box they have there.
In terms of raw CO2 numbers (which ignore air filtration) and Air Changes Per Hour (which ignore room occupancy) the numbers were pretty dismal.
But I got enough data to try modelling the room using co2room, a Python script I wrote.
I worked out the natural ventilation rate of the building by tweaking until the resultant curve fit the readings from the Aranet.
At 40 people last night, the "effective CO2 rate" (i.e. the CO2 readings you'd get if you were ventilating rather than filtering) topped out around 1000ppm, which is above my risk threshold.
However, at my Queer Club event which has only about 20 people, even though it runs for longer it tops out at about 500ppm.

This doesn't look good. I mean, a reduction in atmospheric CO2 might be nice (perhaps not this much of a reduction), but my device displaying 255 ppm CO2 immediately after calibration probably just means that it's faulty.
After I took it indoors the display rise above 300 for a few minutes and then it started displaying error 0x8002.
Anyone out there seen this fault before?

It seems weirdly hard to share the screenshot from my #Aranet #CO2Monitor, so I will simply describe today's readings.
A city bus with about half the seats filled peaked at 1354ppm; a more crowded city bus with at least one window open peaked at 1030.
The OTrain peaked at 534, with again quite a few empty seats.
A well-attended café with high ceilings peaked at 944ppm.
A small yoga studio with two people in it peaked at 1070.

Turns out, the app doesn't work on Android 10. It works fine on my kid's old Android 12 phone, and I've submitted my 1st #IndoorCO2 reading!
The official #Aranet app also needs the following settings:
- Up-to-date firmware
- Measurement interval = 1 minute
- Bluetooth range = Extended (not required but may help)
- Smart Home integration enabled -
