    I was out in the Anza-Borrego desert around Hawi Vallecitoa while back and came across some potsherds. Not at all unusual in a land that's been home and hearth for thousands of years. This one was a bit different. If you look carefully, you can see the maker's thumb print. Holding it, feeling the touch of a long-dead fellow was a moving experience.

    I left it where it belonged.
