  1. Welcome back to the #LycorisRecoil #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Episode 3, "More haste, less speed."

Man, did I forgot how much I don't care about the D.A. parts of the story. Without getting into material later in the series, it feels like the series wants to have its cake and eat it in terms of whether D.A. is dystopian or a necessary evil for badassery. At least this episode gave us the Chisato spin and the return punch.

  2. Welcome back to the #LycorisRecoil #animedon #rewatch. Today we're on Episode 2, "The more the merrier."

This is another fun early episode as Chisato and Takina are tasked with protecting a hacker in a situation that's more complicated than at first glance. The foreshadowing continues to be well-crafted, along with the idea of how much being a Lycoris fucks with you, but the reminder that it's been a month since the end of the first episode feels bizarre.

  3. Welcome to the start of the #LycorisRecoil #animedon #rewatch. Today we're covering Episode 1, "Easy does it."

It's been almost 2 years since this show came out of nowhere and blew up, and this first episode makes it easy to see why. Chisato and Takina make for a great odd couple pair, the animation in both action and character is solid, and a rewatch viewing shows just how many plot points are set up in this first episode alone. The one issue is that the questionable thematics of the series are made clear from moment 1.

  4. Welcome back to the #CyberpunkEdgerunners #animedon #rewatch. Today we're on Episode 5, "All Eyez on Me."

While the plot of this episode could've been done in a few scenes and is primarily for the next episode, "All Eyez on Me" functions more as a statement on David's character at the midpoint of the story. He's diving deeper into the edgerunner world, still believing that he'll be able to avoid the fate all cyberpunks share, but constantly facing the reminder that no one's special in Night City.

    #edgerunners

  5. Apologies for the late post. I've also decided to push the schedule a day forward, so we'll just be looking at Episode 4 of #CyberpunkEdgerunners today, "Lucky You."

The montage episode of Edgerunners, this one shows David quickly learning the ropes of the cyberpunk trade and further developing relationships with the crew, particularly Lucy and Maine. Things look up, until the clouds decide to piss on them. David takes a step deeper into the blooded world he's in, while Lucy reminds him of what he could be reaching for.

  6. Welcome back to the #CyberpunkEdgerunners #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Episode 3, "Smooth Criminal."

David starts off in a rough spots with Maine but is able to get out of it thanks to gumption and connections. His first job with the crew almost goes to shit, but David is able to pull it out of his ass enough that things go relatively well, enough for him to join the crew proper. Things are still sore between him and Lucy, moreso on his end as he deals with how willing it was for her to open herself up right before betraying him. Looks like the only person you can trust in Night City is yourself.

  7. Welcome back to the #cyberpunkedgerunners #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Episode 2, "Like a Boy".

This episode focuses on the end of David's ordinary life and the start of his new one. After getting a Sandy and using it to kick ass, David crosses paths with Lucy and ends up working with her. In between popping a nose cork and nearly getting ripped for his chrome, this is one of the happiest moments David gets in the series. Sure, the attractive woman doesn't hurt, but he gets the feeling that maybe his life is looking up - until he violently finds out how far trust really goes in Night City.

  8. Welcome to the start of the #CyberpunkEdgerunners #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Episode 1, "Let You Down."

Episode 1 is a masterclass in introducing character, thematics, and tone. We learn all the essential details of David Martinez that will inform both his character and the story of the story - he's impulsive and cocky, high-aiming yet stuck to the bottom. The death of his mother only adds to the trauma he's been exposed to, the usage of reptation adding to the sense of stagnation that forces his hand with the Sandy. Most of all, starting with the cyberpsychotic makes clear that, whatever happens to David, it won't end well.

  9. Welcome back to the last day of the #DoItYourself #animedon #rewatch. Today we're on Episode 12, "'DIY' Means Friendship, Always and Forever!"

DIY ends on something of a bittersweet note, with Jobko leaving and the DIY club still not having enough members for an official status, but there's still a sense of hope, both for the DIY club as a whole and Serufu and Purin's relationship.

Overall, while I still like this series, I can't deny some of the vanish has peeled off since when I originally watched it over a year ago.

  11. Welcome back to the #DoItYourself #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Episode 11, "'DIY' Means Do It Yourself!"

I don't really have anything to say today that won't be better served in my final thoughts tomorrow.

  12. Welcome back to the #DoItYourself #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Episode 10, "'DIY' Means...Rock Bottom? Impossible? With Courage and Drive, Anything is Possible!"

Well, that sucks. The loss of all their materials sends the DIY club in a slump... for like half a day. While I do like the scene we get between Serufu and Purin out of this (particularly the reveal that Serufu was just disassociating the whole time), it kinda feels curt in the way it's quickly resolved.

  13. With my #DoItYourself #rewatch ending on Sunday, I'm going to put up another rewatch poll. This'll be the last rewatch I host before the spring anime start up. Your choices this time are

    #AkebisSailorUniform
    #chainsawman
    #CyberpunkEdgerunners
    #BeastTamer
    #shikimorisan

The poll will be up for three days. You can vote for as many options as you'd like.

  14. Welcome back to the #DoItYourself #animedon #rewatch. Today we're on Episode 9, "Does 'DIY' Mean a Shocking Surprise? How Unexpected! It's Really Unexpected!"

Another episode that makes me wonder if the secret hideout was introduced too early, but the stuff about Purin and Serufu was nice. Anyway, time to check out the next episode... huh, the next episode is missing.

    #diyanime

  15. Welcome back to the #DoItYourself #animedon #rewatch. Today we're on Episode 8, "'DIY' Means... You Can't Do It? No, I Absolutely Can!"

I don't really have anything to say this episode other than the pacing of the second half of the series feels more languid on a day-to-day rewatch.

    #diyanime

  16. Sorry for the late post.

Welcome back to the #DoItYourself #animedon #rewatch. Today we're on Episode 7, "'DIY' Means You Can Do Things Inside If It's Hot and Muggy Out".

I recall this being an alright episode and it still is. The major issue is one that the whole series has: Rei feels underused as a character. She often feels more reactionary and as a mentor figure rather than her own character, particularly considering that she's a third year. It just would've been nice to see at some plot about what she wants from her future.

    #diyanime

  17. Welcome back to the #DoItYourself #animedon #rewatch. Today we're on Episode 6, "'DIY' Means Dull, Unexciting Items Come in Handy!"

It's time for a beach episode... in the middle of winter. The primary focus of this episode besides acquiring materials is coming back to Purin and Serufu's relationship and the way that it's changed since Serufu joined the club. Purin's still her tsundere self but it's clear she's becoming aware of the fact that her self-imposed distance from her (girl)friend is causing her to miss important parts of her growth.

    #diyanime

  18. Welcome back to the #DoItYourself #animedon #rewatch. Today we're on Episode 5, "'DIY' Means Finding a Place to Belong... Finally".

This episode is our final major introduction as Shii gets properly included into the DIY club and preparations begin on the treehouse, complete with pallet deconstruction. This far into the rewatch, I am realizing that the series demonstrates, each in their own ways, that what really connects the DIY club is a sense of loneliness, that they don't fit into society for one reason or another and see working together in these projects as a way of creating community.

  19. Welcome back to #DoItYourself #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Episode 4, "'DIY' Means You'll Find It Possible to Feel Comfortable Anywhere".

This episode pulls an interesting double duty as it continues Jobko's introduction while also being Purin's first focus episode. It's fun to see the two of them clash against one another while still recognizing that both of them have their own reasons as to who they are. I kinda forgot the tree house was introduced this early, but it's nice to see such a concreate goal this early on in the series.

    #diyanime #anime

  20. Welcome back to the #DoItYourself #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Episode 3, "Does 'DIY' Mean Why Did You Suddenly Show Up?"

Looks like the DIY Club's got an infestation from a little shit. Jobko's introduction primarily focuses on the conflict that results from her being a 12-year-old girl dealing with a lot of emotions. We won't know the full deal with her mom until the end of the series (which I think is one of the weaker narrative aspects) but her being away from home and in what she feels is the wrong school is enough to make us have some sympathy towards her.

    #diyanime

  21. Welcome back to the #DoItYourself #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Episode 2, "Does 'DIY' Mean Doing Stuff With Somebody?"

This episode primarily focuses on introducing Takumi into the DIY group, starting off as someone uncertain about her place in the group and in the world at large but eventually coming to an understanding of what she wants to be. Watching Takumi's growth is one of the best parts of DIY and I'm glad to see it having a great start in the series.

    #diyanime

  22. I've been thinking about this since this show aired. she sleeps with a cat, a dog, and a pig. we see her bathing with the dog and pig. I don't think I could handle that much animal smell. I'm just going to assume this fancy future world has some really good allergy meds and deodorizers

    #animedon #diyanime

  23. Welcome to the start of the #DoItYourself #animedon #rewatch. We're beginning with Episode 1, "What is 'DIY'?"

I remembered DIY being a very good anime, but I forgot how good this first episode was in setting up the major aspects of the series while still being entertaining in its own right. We get an introduction to the tone of the series (lackadaisical yet emotional attuned), the major relationship of the series (Serufu and Purin), and the key theme of the series (the balance between progress towards new innovations and a respect towards the history and methods of those who came before us).

  24. I'm ending my poll a bit early because the winner has been clear. The next #animedon #rewatch I'm hosting is #DoItYourself. It will begin in three days on the 21st. Our thoughts will go up at midnight utc.

  25. Welcome back to the final day of the #bofuri #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're looking at Season 2, Episode 12, "Defense and the Big Final Battle."

The season and current anime ends, appropriately, on a huge big boss fight that involves all of our major characters finishing the event with a bang. I'll admit that I think I like this final arc of Season 2 more than Season 1's final arc; it's kinda more fun to see our characters fight together using new strategies rather than fight against each other. I will dock points here for the weird CG, though it's not as bad as Episode 3.

  26. Welcome back to the #bofuri #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Season 2, Episode 11, "Defense and New Parties".

This episode is primarily watching the main characters kick us and setting up for the finale. I'll admit I was dreading this arc coming into it but it's better on a rewatch, primarily due to the delays it had in its original airing and for the short time period playing better in a day-to-day rewatch.

    #anime

  27. Welcome back to the #bofuri #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Season 2, Episodes 9 and 10, "Defense and Setting Up a Base" and "Defense and New Teams."

The eighth event turns out to be more fun that I remember it being (likely because of the delays we had around this time). While things like the splitting of guilds go by a bit too quickly, it's still cool to see different groupings than normal and the strategies that come from that. Plus, you get shit like Maple exploding herself as a signal - what more could you want from Bofuri?

    #anime

  28. Apologies for the lack of post today; wi-fi was out for a long while. Tomorrow will cover Episodes 9 and 10.

    #bofuri #animedon #rewatch

  29. Welcome back to the #bofuri #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Season 2, Episode 8, "Defense and the Eighth Event."

The event itself gets off to a fun start as we see the rest of the major characters' Pokemon- I mean, tamed monsters. Highlight is obviously Mii and Payne's pretty cool fight immediately being undercut by Maple and her gator- you know, a normal Tuesday in NWO.

    #anime

  30. Welcome back to the #bofuri #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Season 2, Episode 7, "Defense and Crystal Hunt."

A pretty basic plot as Maple and Sally find themselves in the middle of a quest that unlocks a new gameplay mechanic, but it's well done with a pair of fun boss battles that gives us a breather between the monster taming and the final arc of the season.

    #anime

  31. Welcome back to the #bofuri #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Season 2, Episode 6, "Defense and Tame Monsters."

Another solid episode as the last three members of Maple Tree gain their companions. Kanade gains a ditto, Iz gets a biblically accurate angel with Maple and Mii's help, and Chrome becomes a Metal Hero... you know, normal stuff.

    #anime

  32. Welcome back to the #bofuri #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Season 2, Episode 5, "Defense and Tentacles."

Now we're cookin' again. This episode really feels like the first season with exploring the seventh floor and looking for animal companions. Kasumi and the twins' segments are nice in demonstrating one of the most vital things about video games: the loop. Nothing should come easy at first; otherwise, you'd get bored. Even Maple had to git gud before becoming a god. Watching Kasumi, Mai, and Yui struggle so much before getting their comfy companions is nice to see.

  33. Welcome back to the #bofuri #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Season 2, Episode 4, "Defense and Tower Climbing."

Boss rush episode, not much to say here.

  34. Welcome back to the #bofuri #animedon #rewatch. Today, we're on Season 2, Episode 3, "Defense and the Seventh Event."

We start off with Maple causing more grief for the devs and having some fun with Mii that continues the nice relationship they develop throughout this season, then it's onto the seventh event. The fights in this episode are alright, if nothing special for Bofuri standards... but we gotta talk about the CG fight. I still don't know why they went that route. It can't be because of the difficulty of the sequence since they've done more complicated stuff.

  35. Welcome back to the #bofuri #animedon #rewatch. Today we're on Season 2, Episode 2, "Defense and Floors 5 and 6."

Once again, another mixed bag. I do like the design of Floors 5 and 6, along with the Kaede and Risa moment at the end, showing just how strong their friendship is. However, this episode's pace feels way too fast, basically jumping over Floor 5 to get to the next part. I always wonder what Season 2 would've been like if it was 13 episodes that gave us more time to breathe between moments.

    #anime

  36. Welcome back to the #bofuri #animedon #rewatch. Today we're on Season 2, Episode 1, "Defense and Christmas." (A bit late for that one.)

This is a pretty decent start to Season 2 that does show some of the issues I have with this outing. I do like the aesthetic of Floor 4; sure, it's just feudal Japan, but they do it well and I love the constantly falling sakura petals. It's fun to see Federica get her ass kicked again, along with Maple and Payne's team up.

  37. Welcome back to the #bofuri #animedon #rewatch. Today we're on Season 1 Episode 12, "Defense and Bonds."

The first half deals with Maple quickly gaining their ground and eating the shit out of Holy Sword. This fight has always felt a step down from Flame Emperors and this rewatch gave me a theory as to why. When the Flame Emperors fight Maple, they all fully aware that they could honestly lose this fight, whereas Holy Sword is a lot more smug towards their fight. While it does have more emotional satisfaction to watch their shit wrecked, it's not as interesting as with the Flame Emperors.

  40. CW: odd taxi spoilers

    (knew i forgot something)

We end our #OddTaxi #animedon #rewatch with the recap movie Into the Woods. Despite being a recap movie, I actually thought it was well-done. What I thought was particularly noteworthy was not the specific format, but rather having it be set the day before the climax. It demonstrates a moment where a lot of questions have been answered but where it's still not exactly clear how things will play it. It also provides some fun with who's present or not, particularly since Imai is still being held.
