    Riding Double

    #FanFiction #AdachiToShimamura

“Look where you’re going,” Shimamura yelled, the wind tearing at her words.

She’d never been sure how Adachi steered the bike while looking at her. That question was now burning up the circuits of her brain, red lights flashing. It took a lot for that to happen. Normally, her brain was half asleep. On a good day, it might be 90% awake, but at the moment, it was running at 200% wakefulness.

It took an intersection full of trucks at the bottom of a hill to wake her up like that. “This is why the school forbade riding double,” she thought. Too late to worry about that—Adachi was staring at her, and the trucks were rumbling past.

    “Brake! Brake! Brake!” she yelled.

Adachi blinked and froze. “Never yell at Adachi,” Shimamura thought too late.

“Trucks,” she said, just loud enough to be heard over the rushing air. A small part of her brain analyzed what was happening and marveled at her self-control.

She almost added, “I’ll let you sit between my legs” as a bribe. “No, no, no!” That small part of her brain panicked, screaming. “She’ll freeze.” As though she hadn’t already. But the comment would have locked Adachi into a glacial winter. Its icy depths would have someday yielded mastodons, and a mangled Shimamura.

Adachi looked forward and slammed on the brakes, #decelerating suddenly.

    Shimamura—

                          sailing—

                                    over—

                                          Adachi—

                                                    handlebars.

Time seemed to stop, and a little girl with sparkling blue hair appeared floating in the air. Shimamura drifted into her arms.

    “It’s destiny.”

  12. Other #Primavera highlights -

#Aminé - Florida rap that blew everything away (and made Central Cee look like the embodiment of toxic masculinity and lack of skillz).
Plus he stayed and spoke / took selfies with EVERYONE who wanted to meet him afterwards. At least 100 people, and he made time for them all. Superb.

Honorable mentions to #AngélicaGarcia (cool goth electro-rock), Anohni (queen), TV On The Radio (classic Brooklyn indie), Liniker (QUEEEN!) & Horsegirl (slowcore?).

Adachi at Sunset <Continued from Part 1 above)

“Cute,” Shimamura thought while studying Adachi’s face. The golden light lit it up, highlighting the features she loved. “How did I get so lucky?” The words almost slipped out. “What the heck,” she thought and said it.

Adachi blushed redder than the rose-tinted clouds outside their window. Shimamura smiled. No one but Adachi affected her that way.

Shimamura tried not to tease her wife too much. It was fun, but dangerous. Too much teasing could put Adachi out of action for hours. Once she had gone too far, causing Adachi to bang her head against the wall. That wasn’t fun at all and had terrified her.

“So what were you thinking about?” she asked.

Adachi just looked down and tugged harder on her hair.

“Okay, that’s not working,” Shimamura thought. She took a piece of paper she had been jotting notes on, walked over, and handed it and a pen to Adachi.

“Write it down for me. Pweese.” Shimamura had learned that writing sometimes helped. “Pweese” was a risk. Adachi could never resist when she said it like that — unless her brain melted. And that was a real risk.

That time she had frozen in the middle of the grocery store had been a nightmare. Or when she hid in the stationery store. Who would’ve thought a place that small had such a good hiding spot?

Fortunately, Adachi survived the massive brain storm “Pweese” produced and made several attempts at writing. She’d start writing, pause, then furiously scratch it out. She finally took a deep breath and hurriedly wrote something.

Shimamura had been waiting for that and snatched the paper before Adachi could scribble it out.

Shimamura read, “I was remembering how you looked at the CARNIVAL.”

“You mean when we kiss under the sunset?” Shimamura asked.

That was too much for poor Adachi, who dove under her blanket, the one with the horrible Shimamura store logo in big letters.

    Adachi at Sunset

“I hate this,” Shimamura grumbled. “When you get off work, that should be it. It’s worse than school. At least I could fall asleep pretending I was working on homework. My boss will yell at…”

Shimamura looked up from her papers scattered on the table to Adachi, who was on the couch with her favorite blanket. Adachi was staring vacantly past her. It was still embarrassing how Adachi would stare at her while pretending to watch TV, but Shimamura was used to it. Looking past her was a new, irritating surprise.

“What are you looking at?” Shimamura asked.

As expected, Adachi’s eyes darted around, and she tugged at her hair.

Not receiving an answer, Shimamura looked behind her. “Wow, glorious.” It was indeed. Golden light illuminated the sky and red tinted the edges of the clouds.

“Were you admiring the sunset?” Adachi was usually oblivious to things like that, so Shimamura’s curiosity was piqued.

Adachi shook her head yes and then violently no. “No,” she muttered, looking both alarmed and confused.
