  16. "Should we celebrate that MeidasTouch is now the #1 podcast in America? They are certainly less toxic than right-wing manosphere figures like Andrew Tate or content produced by Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire. However, their role in future Democratic primary contests will likely make them adversaries of the progressive left. They will continue playing their role as party enforcers for the same soulless elite politics that led to Donald Trump’s rise in the first place, and they will work to sideline progressive challengers and insulate their audiences from hearing criticism of the Democratic Party. Their influence will make it even harder for progressives to break through. These people are not allies of the left. They are obstacles to meaningful change.

If this is the future of the Democratic Party’s media ecosystem, it’s a bleak and cynical one. A party that relies on controlled messaging instead of real accountability will only accelerate its own decline. MeidasTouch and its ilk may be raking in views now—but in the end, they are helping to build a Democratic Party that is increasingly disconnected from the very voters it claims to represent. Thankfully, there are real alternatives. Outlets like Status Coup, The Real News Network, The Lever, BreakThrough News, and Drop Site News produce excellent original reporting that holds power to account. Likewise, here at Current Affairs we challenge both Donald Trump and the liberal establishment that enables him."

  18. "An independent left media will not create the same controlled environment many Democrats and their patrons have come to rely on: paid advertisements, social media posts, and highly selective engagements with professional news. Hopefully, the 2024 election compels Democrats to move beyond these safe spaces. A vibrant left media sphere — with different strains of Democrats and leftists engaging in meaningful debate — would likely cool some of the animosity that festers when some views and communities are kept isolated. It might also counter factionalism and splintering across the left-of-center coalition.

The reluctance to engage new voices extends far beyond elected Democrats. Many progressives instinctively resist calls for outreach beyond the base. Some radicals cling to the fantasy that simply exposing more people to radical views will inspire a groundswell of support. Some wealthy backers may fear the unpredictable demands that new voices might introduce. Some activists fear that calls for “outreach” are just a coded push for moderation and tacking to the center. Given how often moderation is framed as the only path to grow a coalition, this skepticism is warranted. But building a left media sphere isn’t about compromising — it’s about forging new pathways to the Left."

  22. Bvlbancha Public Access is pleased to announce that we have received a $50,000 grant from the Mellon Foundation Humanities in Place program.

In late 2024, the Foundation reached out to our team and requested that we submit an application to continue Bvlbancha Public Access’ mission of platforming Indigenous Gulf South voices. We are honored that the work of uplifting our community of collaborating artists and leaders compelled national support. Our proposal, “Equitable Recursion,” shores up existing programming of the Indigenous Gulf Stream biennial, and grows our work within art-centered convenings, publications, and equitable intellectual property interactions.

This grant makes the 2025 Indigenous Gulf Stream possible and allows our organization the leeway to push further into joyful and innovative media.

  25. Hello everyone!

I write my bachelor's thesis about Mastodon as an alternative social network and how its users perceive the platform.

I would be gratful if you would participate in my survey:
    (The link is deactivated now)

It only takes 10-15 minutes and would help me a lot.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

In case you want to support me, you can repost the access link, which would also help me.

    Thank you!

  26. #Germany #FarRight #Media #News #AlternativeMedia #AlternativeNews: "The study of right-wing alternative news sources has moved to the center of scholarly attention recently. Such sources cater to news consumers characterized by extreme political views and mistrust toward mainstream news. However, research into the predictors of alternative news consumption is still scarce. We approach this gap by combining online tracking and survey data from 2,009 German panel participants. We find conspiratorial thinking and pro-Russian stance to be predictors of alternative news consumption, both in absolute and in relative terms. Our analysis thus contributes to a more nuanced understanding of alternative news consumers."

  28. #News #Media #Journalism #AlternativeMedia: "In order to better understand alternative news media, we need to focus more centrally on the audiences that regularly consume them. This special issue, entitled “Contesting the Mainstream: Understanding Alternative News Media,” advances such an audience turn. In the introduction, we outline how scholars have understood and characterized alternative news audiences. These have ranged from seeing them as (i) ideal participants and activists; as (ii) being misinformed and manipulated; and as (iii) being critical users. Drawing on studies published in this special issue, we highlight how these studies provide new and revealing empirical insights that advance all three perspectives. Taken together, the articles make a strong argument to move beyond binary ideations of normatively “good” or “bad” alternative news audiences. In our view, they signal the need to better understand the complexity behind audience engagement not just with alternative news media but mainstream journalism more generally. Based on this argument, we identify several starting points for moving the field forward with such an audience turn in mind."

We can shut down 56 wars of choice
and invest in peace, people and a healing planet.

    There are more of us.

Mainstream media represent the corporate elite.  Most so-called news outlets are more concerned with entertainment than with real news.

We can educate, organize and agitate for peace, justice and freedom.

George W. Bush was never elected president.

    http://www.michaelparenti.org/stolenelections.html

But he was installed as president of American Wars, Inc.

    https://www.stpete4peace.org/obama-fact-sheet

    O
bama and Biden carried George W. Bush’s torch, taking us from 4 avoidable wars into at least 34 unnecessary corporate-American wars enforcing illegal extraction, exploitation and extortion. Those 34 wars have become 56 unprovoked but simultaneous and expanding wars of aggression. With the help of Biden, Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush and Reagan… America is exporting more terror, munitions and wars than any nation on planet Earth. The American CIA, Pentagon and 16 more intelligence agencies, services, contractors and mercenaries have become pirates of sea, air and space.  This is not romantic, but costs trillions, kills millions, is bankrupting America and these dozens of avoidable wars of aggression are crippling Mother Earth.

Artist – Memphis Slim Album – Rockin’ The Blues Song – Mother Earth Release Date – 1999

Exports of war have bankrupted America: the carbon footprint of dozens of wars is crippling planet Earth.

    https://thewordsmithcollection.wordpress.com/2015/04/24/the-right-wing-loves-big-brother-obama/

Clinton, Obama, Bush, Bush and Reagan spent trillions
killing millions for billionaires.  Trump doubled down.
And Biden swears nothing will change.
Bankruptcy and Ruin are being delivered.

Corporate wars enforcing extraction have not been working out well for everyday people.

Biden, Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush and Reagan misused military & intelligence resources to wage dozens of unprovoked economic and military wars:  this is rank treason.

    https://thepeaceresource.com/2016/07/22/trump-or-clinton-will-sink-all-ships/

Corporate wars and profiteering have bankrupted the nation.

…If we continue down this road towards the endings of this ill-fated empire, our military expansion into deficits will trigger global recession before 2030. We will be in full retreat from 800 plus military bases in 150 nations.  Before 2050, if these wars continue, dying toxic oceans will rise to flood all shores.

    https://thewordsmithcollection.wordpress.com/2016/08/24/america-is-bankrupt/

    We have solutions!
We can leave the war parties behind by voting for The Green Party New Deal for Peace, People and Planet. Instead of voting against ourselves for unending wars, we can shut down the wars and force investment in peace, people and planet.

    https://revolutionresource.org/2019/02/20/green-party-new-deal-for-peace-people-and-a-healing-planet/

Revolutionary solutions can work in 2024!

We can establish a foreign policy based on diplomacy, international law, and human rights. We can end the wars and drone attacks, cut military spending by at least 70% and close 800+ offensive military bases that have turned our republic into a bankrupt but expanding empire.

We can shut down dozens of corporate-American wars, end U.S. support and arms sales to human rights abusers and export knowledge, technology and peace instead of terror, munitions and wars.

Si se puede.  Yes we can.

Currently we are in dangerous waters with demonstrable war criminals at the helm.
