Been trying to keep my #PCEngines #ALIX boards alive, but it looks like #NanoBSD in #FreeBSD doesn't work (compile error in tz!) ...
Nobody seems to still product bootable system images for i386 anymore - not even #NetBSD or #DietPi :(
... which is a real shame; I want to use these extremely reliable, low-power SBCs as #Zabbix Proxies (using memory-backed #SQLite for the DB), but this seems to be a realllllllly big lift :(
@dexter is this something #OccamBSD can help me with? No chance of a 14.3 serial-console image out there?

I got an old router, #pcengines #ALIX 2D2/2D18 with wifi, from a company liquidation (bankrupt). The device was in operation in the field at the tank control and mixing unit. Let's see what artifacts can still be found. #otsecurity #hardware #icsSecuruity

Tonight I tested #VR for the 1st time at a friend's place. Played the 1st levels of #Valve #Alix and it was a real magical experience. The one issue for me: the gear used was #Meta gear. Don't get me wrong, the hardware performed admirably, I just don't want to start an account on #Facebook to use it. My question: Is the Valve Index at the same level regarding quality and use? I would not mind the fact it is more expensive, that's a price I'm willing to pay

Ich möchte an dieser Stelle mal vielen herzlichen Dank sagen an die vielen Hacker, die sich in den unterschiedlichsten Bereichen um freie Software und die Adaption von #Hardware (besonders älterer) bemühen.
Im konkreten Fall speziell bei T o b i a s _ N a w r o c k i aus #Bochum und den Leuten, die #Debootstrap unter #Debian an den Start gebracht haben.

Das Problem mit dem WAN scheint gelöst. War wohl irgendwas mit dem Default-Gateway , genau weiß ich es nicht.
Also grundsätzlich läuft das, dieser Post kommt von der #Alix. Ich schau jetzt mal nach Performance und Stabilität - Wunder erwarte ich aber nicht.

Beim Thema WAN bzw. #PPPoE bin ich noch nicht weiter gekommen.
Aber ich habe die frühen Morgenstunden genutzt und das interne Netz etwas getestet mit der Kombination neues #opnsense auf alter #Alix.
Wenn man die Finger vom WebInterface lässt, dann macht die Firewall durchaus ihren Job trotz alter Hardware. Beispielsweise beim Backup zeigen sich kaum Unterschiede bei der Performance (Traffic muss durch die Firewall wegen eigenständiger Subnetze / VLANs).

Dass die Variante mit der Alix sogar um Nuancen schneller ist, kann man wohl getrost ignorieren und auf andere Umstände zurückführen, wie die sonstige Nutzung des Netzes wegen der Uhrzeit.
However: Das Bild scheint sich herauszukristalisieren, dass die alte Hardware als Notbehelf (bei Ausfall oder Migration) durchaus eine Alternative sein kann, wenn man bereit ist, bei bestimmten Services temporär Abstriche zu machen. 4 parallele Streams von Netflix geht dann eben nicht, aber VPN, SSH, Mail, Matrix und Friendica dürten funktionieren - das wichtige halt.
