I'm on a mandatory AI learning call and it is hilarious to me that Microsoft has blundered copilot so badly that folks can't tell if they have the paid version or not. The webinar chat is blowing up with confusion. Also interestingly, you can't ask copilot if you have a paid version- it doesn't know.

Seems the solution is that the paid version looks slightly different.

Turns out Chrome can’t add 4 gb of #AIshit to my drive because I don’t have that BS browser on my machine.

Something I’ve learned in the corporate world is biz bros HAAATE when their industry is subject to “commoditization.” That’s their buzz for ‘waahhhh, our competitors are competing / any differentiation or advantage we had is gone, so we can’t overcharge anymore’

ANYWAY. All of this #AIshit? It’s already mostly commoditized. Some outliers, sure. But that’s got to mean we’re in a bubble, right?

Totally bizarre how "I used AI" in every context except at work results in [deserved] scorn.

But talk about outsourcing your expertise to a stupid machine to the bosses at work and it's met with applause... From the leaders. Peers know better and are deeply skeptic.

And it’s not as simple as adding a bit more oil. I buy the overpriced cans of engineered fuel. It’s premixed, and more stable (longer lasting) than gas. A small can (1/4 gallon) will typically get me through the season.

In a rush I asked AI which fuel ratio my 5-year old weedeater would take. It asked for model (who knows that?!) but I knew the brand. It confidently said 50:1, so that’s what I went with.

SO, GUESS WHAT? Mine wants 40:1.

There is a site I will link to to in a reply. It housed a beautiful trove of boiler plate disclaimers and notices. You know the stuff: See site for details, void where prohibited, etc.

I’ve used the site for actual decades. Never remember the URL, nor bothered to bookmark it. All I had to do was “google” (or more recently “duck duck go”) some of the language and it’d be at the top of the list.

Nowadays, not only is it NOT at the top of the list, every search engine’s stupid AI tries to mansplain the disclaimers.

There is a house for sale in our neighborhood. It has great curb appeal. Inside they used AI staging to add furniture where it IRL wouldn’t fit, and AI removed all the many blemishes. The inside is in need of a lot of TLC. You’d never guess from the description and photos.

Potential buyers only hang around for 5-10 mins. I don’t know what’s normal but that seems short compared to our recent sales experience across town.

I know we're all anti AI here. Me too for a lot of stuff.

But I'm increasingly of the opinion that I wouldn't be able to stay on Linux without bouncing between the various chatbots for help. Unless I had hours to dig stuff up on my own. Or had a Linux mentor. Which I don't. 🤷‍♂️

While I am -and plan to remain- an AI skeptic, I can't deny that chatbots have been helpful with specific use cases.

Here's a great example: I knew I needed a partition for an install but I didn't know how to ask what to do next. So I told chatGPT what I did and it gave me next steps.

Worth noting I feel way more confident continuing my #LinuxCurious journey with it (and Fedifriends) for help.

And that's pretty darn cool.
