  1. If you #hateAi put a minimum effort into learning the basics...
Least you sound like the Woods folk
...unless you're happy in just talking about fierce monster Ai's around bonfires to other Wood folk.

"#LLM creates dependency on commercial inference providers, who can cut you off at any time ("first hit is free" etc)"

Yeah, true, if the only time you tried 'chatbot' was V3.0, you decided it's crap, and swore a bloodoath to never use a clanker again.
Today, 30 Billion parameter free local model is entirely comparable to a commercial one for code development.

And this one is just plain dumb, harking back to 'spicy autocomplete'
"people use it as a substitute for actual experts, despite it not being an expert in anything and instead a mere token predictor"
The thing about 'mere token predictors' is that's exactly what expertise IN A NARROW KNOWLEDGE DOMAIN IS!!!
This is why inference engines are so good at coding, because ITS ALL NEXT TOKEN PREDICTOR...
...and let's not talk about #ZeroShot knowledge because that destroys the whole "stochastic parrot" narrative.

👉 The thing about criticising #Ai is you have to put the effort in to stay current.
It is the fastest growing tech in history. If you have an anthropic test string in your bio, or you're still on the 'r' in strawberry page, you're advertising your intellectual incuriosity.

In a field where last Tuesday is now ancient history, regurgitating old arguments where new ones pop up every week is a disservice to your cause.

  5. Our Children Are Not Ready : A Generational Crisis in the Age of AI

I was on a panel recently discussing the future of work when a fellow panelist shared a chilling statistic. In their research, they had monitored the social media platform Discord and found a server with approximately 5,000 children actively and openly discussing suicide. These conversations were unfolding in a digital space with virtually no adult supervision a dark corner of the internet where despair was festering among the generation expected to build our future……..Continue […]

  6. 🎓📉 Oh look, AI helps students ace homework, but when it’s time for exams, their scores dive faster than a lead balloon 🪂. Who knew copying answers doesn't teach you anything? 🤔📚

  8. AI Mastery In 60 Days The Step By Step Guide Walks You Through AI Tools In Bite Sized Lessons

If you’ve ever felt like the world of AI is moving too fast for you to keep up, you’re not alone. Everywhere you look, people are creating content at lightning speed, generating designs with a single click, launching side hustles, and even automating their businesses all thanks to artificial intelligence. But here’s the truth: while AI is transforming industries, most people are still on the outside looking in. Why? Because the learning curve feels overwhelming. Too many platforms, […]

"What are some of the less obvious ways that AI could harm students? "

That seems like an entirely unbiased "help" you're providing.

Rather than (seemingly) providing another ideological AiBad essay, may I advise to have a look what other, more stable nations are doing with #aieducation in schools.

  11. I am forming an AI in K-12 CS Community of Practice (working title: "AI-proof your CS students"). The goal is for teachers to help each other develop CS skills in students that can't be replaced by LLM chatbots, and to view AI with balanced eyes (re: society/planet).

Today I was in a Github in Education conference, and began following links and Slacks. It felt like bringing my hand to a live vacuum nozzle! Good thing I'm immune, thanks to Mastodon!

Imagine you're in dark Africa, no electricity but the cell charging station...

Pick one, 4-6Gb local phone LLM, or couple of old books and a bible

...if you say the latter, that's 1st world privilege talking.

  13. It's startling to see how many people seem to think there is wisdom in AI decisions. We undoubtedly need to make it clearer that AI isn't human intelligence but rather a prediction engine, or at best an educated guess.
