Cherche un autre valet ! tu méconnais en vain
Le devoir du poëte et son emploi divin !
Comment les cœurs à lui viennent- ils se soumettre ?
Comment des éléments dispose-t-il en maître ?
N’est-ce point par l’accord, dont le charme vainqueur
Reconstruit l’univers dans le fond de son cœur ?
Tandis que la nature à ses fuseaux démêle
Tous les fils animés de sa trame éternelle ;
Quand les êtres divers, en tumulte pressés,

Qui sait assujettir la matière au génie ?
