Participants induced with fear perceived greater risk. Participants induced with anger perceived less risk and supported more aggressive policy responses.
This is the exact mechanism that Fox News, Trump rallies, and right-wing social media exploit. The content is engineered to produce anger, not fear. Angry viewers do not question what they are being told. They feel certain. They feel in control. They feel like they are seeing truth that everyone else is too weak to accept. The affect heuristic takes over. The brain stops evaluating evidence. And whatever the angry person feels becomes what the angry person knows."
