Kiss, Destroyer, 1976 on Casablanca

This was the fourth full length for Kiss, with the Gene Simmons, Peter Criss, Ace Frehley, Paul Stanley line up, supported by Dick Wagner on three tracks. (Sadly Ace passed this week).

This is the first vinyl record I remember holding and listening to – I loved “Beth” and the Casablanca label – but I’ve no real idea how i came to have it. It wasn’t a first pressing so a later 70s reissue on the “filmworks” Casablanca label. I still know all the words and the solo to “Beth. ” (Was “Beth” the first in the tradition of soft piano ballads by heavy metal bands? Certainly the earliest I know).

My current copy (not the one I originally had) has the misprint on side B where the “1” is missing and the blue “Bogart” Casablanca label – via A1 Records in NYC.

Gestern ist Paul Daniel Frehley, aka Ace Frehley, DER Gitarrist meiner großen musikalischen Kinder- und Jugendliebe KISS, gestorben.

In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this earth. We cherish all of his finest memories, his laughter, and celebrate his strengths and kindness that he bestowed upon others. The magnitude of his passing is of epic proportions, and beyond comprehension. Reflecting on all of his incredible life achievements, Ace’s memory will continue to live on forever!”

74 Jahre. :( Früher dachte man, wow, das ist alt, aber heute, mit Ende Fünfzig, kommt einem das leider viel zu früh vor.
Und auch wenn mich damals Gene Simmons indirekt zu meinem ersten Bass gebracht hat (eine andere Geschichte), so war Ace doch im Rückblick der coolste der Band, Acecool, quasi. Und die Gitarrenlinien und Soli habe ich auch erst viel später würdigen können.

Estoy muy lejos de ser el mayor fan de Kiss o de Ace Frehley, pero si soy un gran fan del rock. Precisamente el año recién pasado le di hartas vueltas al «10,000 Volts», un disco que es puro hard rock clásico ajustado al siglo XXI, y que para mí gusto estuvo entre los mejores del año.
