@stonebear2 apologies unsure if this solution would ever meet your needs, but the #Accrescent app store has a #Signal client called #Molly, the use of which, I think, which averts your problem? Sorry it's a convoluted solution. Hopefully a better one will turn up for you.

I don't even know what to think about #keepandroidopen:
The website doesn't have a word about #grapheneos, #obtainium, or #accrescent yet lists every possible insecure device and rom, and presents #fdroid (with well-known serious security issues of its own) as if it were the only option for installing apps?
Either the people behind the website are woefully unqualified to make recommendations or they have an agenda not much more in the interest of users than Google's.

Firefox for Android looks great now that the UI has been migrated to Material 3.
Also, the secret settings menu now has toggles for isolated content proccesses (at least in IronFox), meaning that the browser should offer proper site isolation when they are enabled.
Btw, both IronFox and Fennec are fully functional even without Google Play Services, including FIDO2 and UnifiedPush support.
If you need push notifications, you can use Sunup to connect to Mozilla's push server and use it as a UnifiedPush distributor for both Firefox forks and other compatible apps.
Both IronFox and Sunup are available in Accrescent and some F-Droid repos.#Firefox #Android #AOSP #GrapheneOS #IronFox #UI #Mozilla #SiteIsolation #Sunup #Accrescent #DeGoogle #PlayTheXenoSeries

RE: https://infosec.exchange/@accrescent/115260653400068715
The servers were deployed a few weeks ago. However, our next app update had unexpected bugs, delaying its release.
As a result, updates for all apps have been delayed since. We apologize for the delay and hope to resolve it by the end of the week. Thank you for your patience!

Another day of Accrescent, another AOSP bug report: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/447174551
You might say, "Why are you making file names more than 255 characters long? Do you really need to do that?"
No, no I don't. But someone had to try.
For those curious, I actually came across this because Accrescent was using APK URLs as its APK names to uniquely identify them. Those URLs obviously aren't valid file names, so an exception is thrown (for no clear reason). I "fixed" it locally by hex-encoding the URLs since I suspected it had to do with URLs not being valid paths. That worked locally, but failed in our testing environment which has longer APK URLs. The final fix was to hash the APK URL to ensure the APK name is a constant length and thus always a valid file name. At that point, I figured I should file a bug report.

Development on our roadmap is progressing smoothly. Our next app and server releases are undergoing final testing before deployment.
We hope to make an announcement soon about what Android's recently announced developer verification requirements mean for Accrescent. Stay tuned!

@Pterry
BTW, in addition to F-Droid and IzzyOnDroid, I plan to publish my apps on Accrescent soon: Sunup, NextPush, maybe the other UnifiedPush apps, HW Fido2 Provider, and SaverTuner

@constancies @alice Have you tried using #Molly (hardened #Signal client clone) from the #Accrescent app store instead?
I have no issues with an older Pixel, and also never experienced battery drain (commonly reported for the original app). -
Since we published our blog post on the future of Accrescent, donations have increased dramatically.
According to the rates in that post, we should now be able to fund full-time development through at least May 2026!
Thank you to our community for your monumental support!
Because of you, we can dedicate ourselves fully to our mission of building a modern Android app store focused on security, privacy, and usability.

Speaking of FOSS, I love #Accrescent and how it its part of the apps that Grapnene has within its own apps. They dont do that for anyone else.

Accrescent is a novel Android app store focused on security, privacy, and usability. We’ve been building Accrescent since 2021 to improve the security and freedom of everyday Android users by providing an alternative to Google Play which doesn’t compromise on technical excellence and protecting our users. Aligned with this mission, over 42,000 people worldwide trust Accrescent to deliver their apps safely. Now, we need your help to continue.
Accrescent has always been free to use because we believe security shouldn’t have to come at a price. We also understand we’re trusted by our users to secure a sensitive and significant portion of their lives — the apps they use — so we’ve built Accrescent transparently, making our code open source so others can run and inspect it as they please.
From the beginning, we’ve been funded purely by donations from generous users who want to sponsor Accrescent’s development and ensure its long-term viability. This approach has so far been successful; incoming donations completely cover Accrescent’s server costs while I (Accrescent’s lead developer) work on Accrescent in my spare time (usually out of my own pocket). However, this model cannot sustain forever: in 3 months, we will no longer have enough resources to continue ongoing feature development without additional funding. But there is a way forward.
In this post, we hope to explain Accrescent’s status as a project, who we are, what we do, where we’re heading, and how you can help us in our mission if you find value in our work.
Where we’re at
In short: in order for Accrescent to continue advancing, we need $5,800/month in recurring donations to fund its full-time development. This work includes adding features to the Accrescent app and developer console, building new subprojects and tooling, and making improvements to Accrescent’s architecture and server infrastructure — work we currently have limited resources to do, as I can no longer afford to work on Accrescent after October with its current funding.
For the next 3 months, development will continue according to a short-term roadmap we plan to publish in a follow-up blog post next week. Also in that blog post, we will include an extensive development progress update and long-term roadmap for how we hope Accrescent can develop beyond the next 3 months.
After October, feature development will cease unless we reach our funding goal. Maintenance will continue regardless of funding on a best-effort basis, including dependency updates, security patches, and bug fixes. Accrescent will continue operating as-is since recurring donations still cover all existing server infrastructure, so apps will continue to update as usual and developers will still be able to manage and update their apps. New app submissions are unlikely to be accepted to Accrescent for the time being.
If you’re interested in helping out, head over to our donation page and make a recurring donation with GitHub Sponsors. For more information, keep reading.
A sprout in the rock
Accrescent is a fundamentally different project than its competitors, building at the intersection of strong security/privacy and sleek usability. Unlike many app stores, Accrescent doesn’t require an account to use, increasing your privacy by making it difficult to track who installs what. And unlike Google Play, we don’t require developers to hand over the keys to the castle (i.e. app signing keys) or publish sensitive personal information such as legal name and address.
We believe security is paramount to protecting people’s privacy, so we designed Accrescent differently from the start to protect your apps against malicious tampering. Once it’s on Accrescent, nobody but the developer can change it: not hackers, not our server providers — not even us. And knowing that security only succeeds when it’s easy to use, we paired our protections with extensive automation to avoid the frequent delays which plague other app stores and function efficiently while still incorporating a judicious review process to enforce quality guarantees for everyone

Keep an eye out for tomorrow's blog post! We'll be posting a development progress update for the past months and a roadmap for the next few.

We recently discovered a large Monero donation was received in the short time after we updated our article's reported income but before it was posted. We've now updated it to reflect this.
We'll post an update soon on what this means for the project. Thank you for your support!

You have probably seen this #viral #infographic on #eu #digitalsovereignty by #reddit user u/lukakopajtic. It was viral but not very accurate 😅 recommending #bluesky and #firefox as "EU alternatives"? How? Anyway, he just updated the infographic, and it's much, much better! Most issues have been corrected. I think there is still a couple of issues I disagree with: 1) recommending #matrix instead of #jabber #xmpp 2) recommending #lineageos instead of #grapheneos (but OK, I can understand this if the focus is on self-sovereignty only), 3) recommending #droidify instead of #accrescent (but, even here, I can understand if the goal is to replace #playstore ), and 4) recommending #thunderbird as a comparison to #gmail (nothing wrong with Thunderbird, but that's an email client, not a Gmail-like suite provider, I would have rather recommended #mailfence or #mailbox ). Kudos for the initiative though, the intentions are good!
