I enjoyed covering the #AfricanGames a bit too much.
From apparently being a member of Team Negative Stories to following feats of incredible physical prowess by the athletes, it's been fun. I'd like to shout out my Five Heroes of the #AfricanGames2023.

You [we] are the reason why this event has happened. It is important for us to note that not only do we DESERVE events like this, but we deserve that they are done with excellence. You showed up and made these Games brilliant. Big up yourselves!๐ ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ฌ๐ญ
I know, I know. I'm always on the Big Man's neck, but fairness enjoins me to give credit where it is due. While I still do not think it was financially prudent to host the Games at this time, massive commendation is in order for Prez @[email protected], without whose personal intervention at that crucial meeting in Ethiopia, there would have been no Games.
That said, I respectfully suggest that next time, we don't allow things to escalate before we scramble like we did this time. Such avoidable mishaps like we have seen these past few months only hurt the image and legacy of H.E.
๐ ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ข๐
In all my criticism of the Games, I have studiously stayed away from the LOC, being aware of just how underfunded and under-everything they have been from Day Dot. They could only work with resources available, and they've done what they can.๐ ๐ง๐ฒ๐ฎ๐บ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ ๐ฎ๐๐ต๐น๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐
With so little, they've done so much. Nothing but praise to them for giving us the biggest medal haul ever at the Games, and so much to smile about. An honourable mention to the about 5,000 athletes who enlivened all the events, too!๐ ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฎ
Let nobody gaslight us into thinking we did the country a disservice by being critical. We have dragged the authorities since 2021/22 because we had to, and we have been vindicated far more than we got wrong.Should we follow the same modus again if we have the chance? Absolutely.
Indeed, we must now move into accountability mode as soon as possible, and find out if the resources allocated were spent judiciously. They will say we are being negative. That's OK, let's wear the badge with pride!
๐ฌ๐ญ Ghanaians were given a reason to be happy, especially in the final week of the Games, and that brief moment of national joy was a timely wind of freshness.
Congratulations to everyone whose work went into putting #Accra2023 together. Hopefully, its legacies live long to justify what has been expended.
