  3. A quotation from Victor Hugo

He had slipped, climbed, rolled, searched, walked, persevered, that is all. Such is the secret of all triumphs.

[Il avait glissé, grimpé, roulé, cherché, marché, persévéré, voilà tout. Secret de tous les triomphes.]

Victor Hugo (1802–1885) French writer, journalist, human rights activist, politician
The Man Who Laughs [L’Homme qui rit; The Laughing Man; By Order of the King], Part 1, Book 3, ch. 1 (1.3.1) (1869) [tr. Unknown, Authorized (1871)]

  5. A quotation from Thomas Carlyle

The weakest living creature, by concentrating his powers on a single object, can accomplish something: the strongest, by dispensing his over many, may fail to accomplish anything. The drop, by continually falling, bores its passage through the hardest rock; the hasty torrent rushes over it with hideous uproar, and leaves no trace behind.

Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881) Scottish essayist and historian
The Life of Friedrich Schiller, Part 2 (1825)

  6. Interesting Wired piece by @clivethompson on getting things done and why we don't always. I used to keep a to-do list and I stopped. I used to use Workflowy and Remember the Milk for lists (both okay). But now, my email inbox is my to-do list for essential things. I'll write a tiny, brief to-do list on paper if there's a couple things I need to remember or do that day, but that's it. I don't keep a running one anymore. I don't find it useful.
