  1. I'm proud of myself. Why?
    I'm not a DIY person, but;
    I assembled 2 floor lights.
    By myself, per the manual.
So, this is quite a triumph.
    For a non-DIY person.😂

  3. Today I finally did something I've been meaning to do for over a decade, kept saying I was going to do it, but today it finally got done. I put in an application for my very first passport. I should have it in hand in 4 to 6 weeks. If nothing else, I can now go to Canada again if I wish to. It will also give me more travel mobility. So today I'm quite proud of myself. #Accomplishment

  4. A quotation from Cicero

MARCUS: As a field, though fertile, cannot yield a harvest without cultivation, no more can the mind without learning.

[Ut ager quamvis fertilis sine cultura fructuosus esse non potest, sic sine doctrina animus.]

Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43 BC) Roman orator, statesman, philosopher
    Tusculan Disputations [Tusculanae Disputationes], Book 2, ch. 5 (2.5) / sec. 13 (2.13) (45 BC) [tr. Peabody (1886)]

  5. A quotation from Thomas Carlyle

The weakest living creature, by concentrating his powers on a single object, can accomplish something: the strongest, by dispensing his over many, may fail to accomplish anything. The drop, by continually falling, bores its passage through the hardest rock; the hasty torrent rushes over it with hideous uproar, and leaves no trace behind.

Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881) Scottish essayist and historian
The Life of Friedrich Schiller, Part 2 (1825)

  6. A quotation from The Talmud

It is not yours to finish the task, but neither are you free to set it aside.

    לֹא עָלֶיךָ הַמְּלָאכָה לִגְמֹר, וְלֹא אַתָּה בֶן חוֹרִין לִבָּטֵל מִמֶּנָּה.

The Talmud (AD 200-500) Collection of Jewish rabbinical writings
Mishnah, Pirkei Avot [Ethics of the Fathers; פִּרְקֵי אָבוֹת] 2:16

  7. How much household stuff can you move across 8 states, 1600+ miles, in a Chevy Sonic? 🚗

A lot as my wife and I established in Nov. 2020 at the height of COVID. 🗓️ #throwback

Anyway, sad to say goodbye to that car today. 🎁 #donation

  8. Folks like to connect sentiments with colours. They say, #green is the #colour of #hope. I find green and #blue elevating and inspiring. This #door and building remind me that a home is for #comfort and #safety. Inspiration from old fortifications -> safety. Grand spaces feel intimidating. When owned, one will defend out of #fear, not #pride, nor from a sense of #accomplishment. Small homes please with #comfort & a sense of #belonging.

  9. Man, did #India smoke #NewZealand in the T20 World Cup final. 😲🏏🏆🇮🇳

Plus, the first team to win the cup:
    - at home
    - back-to-back
    - three times

And Bumrah's bowling: 4/15 in 4 overs? In a T20? Finals no less? That's test match figures. Just unreal.

  10. A quotation from Robert Louis Stevenson

In the life of the artist there need be no hour without its pleasure. I take the author, with whose career I am best acquainted; and it is true he works in a rebellious material, and that the act of writing is cramped and trying both to the eyes and the temper; but remark him in his study, when matter crowds upon him and words are not wanting — in what a continual series of small successes time flows by; with what a sense of power as of one moving mountains, he marshals his petty characters; with what pleasures, both of the ear and eye, he sees his airy structure growing on the page; and how he labours in a craft to which the whole material of his life is tributary, and which opens a door to all his tastes, his loves, his hatreds, and his convictions, so that what he writes is only what he longed to utter. He may have enjoyed many things in this big, tragic playground of the world; but what shall he have enjoyed more fully than a morning of successful work? Suppose it ill paid: the wonder is it should be paid at all. Other men pay, and pay dearly, for pleasures less desirable.

Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) Scottish essayist, novelist, poet
Essay (1888-09), “A Letter to a Young Gentleman Who Proposes to Embrace the Career of Art,” Scribner’s Magazine, Vol. 4, No. 3

  11. A quotation from Thoreau

Drive a nail home and clinch it so faithfully that you can wake up in the night and think of your work with satisfaction, — a work at which you would not be ashamed to invoke the Muse.

Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) American philosopher and writer
Walden; or, Life in the Woods, ch. 18 “Conclusion” (1854)

  12. 💬 #Ebook #Quote | As a Man Thinketh

UNTIL #thought is linked with #purpose there is no intelligent #accomplishment. With the majority the bark of thought is allowed to "drift" upon the ocean of life.

#Aimlessness is a vice, and such drifting must not continue for him who would steer clear of catastrophe and destruction.

  13. A quotation from Samuel Johnson

Life affords no higher pleasure than that of surmounting difficulties, passing from one step of success to another, forming new wishes, and seeing them gratified. He that labours in any great or laudable undertaking, has his fatigues first supported by hope, and afterwards rewarded by joy; he is always moving to a certain end, and when he has attained it, an end more distant invites him to a new pursuit.

Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) English writer, lexicographer, critic
Essay (1753-11-27), The Adventurer, No. 111

  14. A quotation from Eric Hoffer

There are many who find a good alibi far more attractive than an achievement. For an achievement does not settle anything permanently. We still have to prove our worth anew each day: we have to prove that we are as good today as we were yesterday. But when we have a valid alibi for not achieving anything we are fixed, so to speak, for life. Moreover, when we have an alibi for not writing a book, painting a picture, and so on, we have an alibi for not writing the greatest book and not painting the greatest picture. Small wonder that the effort expended and the punishment endured in obtaining a good alibi often exceed the effort and grief requisite for the attainment of a most marked achievement.

Eric Hoffer (1902-1983) American writer, philosopher, longshoreman
Passionate State of Mind, Aphorism 181 (1955)
