Hey all!
I’m seriously considering giving Android app development a shot for a project. Problem is, I've never developed for Android ever in my life, and I don't even have an Android phone that I could test with. I’ll do something about the no phone problem eventually, but before that I'd like to dig into the tooling to see if it's right for me at all.
So here’s my question, what are the recommended tools for a blind screenreader user here? Is Android Studio usable, or are there better solutions? Also, is there a language that will allow me to define UI components in code in such a way that makes sense semantically, and doesn't require me to write out coordinates by hand? SwiftUI has spoiled me here, but perhaps something similar does exist for Android too. Most of the Android dev tutorials I've come across by accident lately seem to be heavily focused on Flutter, but I’m really unsure if that's the right way to go from an accessibility perspective. I’m primarily a macOS user, but if the recommended tools to get this going are more accessible on Windows, I absolutely could find a way to make that happen as well.
