@marjolica In Ireland, STV and fragmenting politics has led in recent years to some long ballot papers, famously Dublin Bay North in 2016 https://archive.is/uUj0E.
My own Sligo–Leitrim had 19 candidates in 2020, and 18 in 2024. It's not hard to vote effectively with the motto "vote left, transfer left" or #ABFFG (anything but Fianna Fáil / Fine Gael). I usually rank about half the candidates. But I do pre-plan my vote.

This wasn't a tactical choice. The second round was a straightforward binary choice between #LINO and the fash. But you chose not to use LINO even to stop the fash. Seems odd.
In Ireland, where we have full STV, with multiple rounds, the left has been voting #ABFFG, ("anything but FF/FG") & "vote left, transfer left". But with actual fash on the march, we may need to rethink ABFFG. FF/FG are ugly, but not fash.
