  1. Post-meeting road jam on a pleasant Monday evening; the third major rock concert I ever saw (the first being Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers with second The Kinks) in the spring of 1983 was Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band. They played for four friggen hours and when they launched into this one as one of the encore numbers, the crowd - including an 18 year-old me - went absolutely nuts.

  2. Just as Jimi Hendrix’s “Red House” was my introduction to his work, Janis Joplin’s version of a song dating to the 1920s and on that Ronco compilation was the first I’d heard from her.

  3. When Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page put together “Coda” in 1982 while the band was deciding which direction to go following the death of drummer John Bonham two years before he included one of the best sound checks EVER of a rendition of an Otis Rush tune they covered on their first album in 1968.

  4. A CCR tune I always felt needed more airplay in the “classic rock” era. So, when I was doing radio, whether at my first album rock gig in 1984 or 20 years later on the pirate radio station my Army Guard unit had in Mosul, Iraq and four years after that on a live morning classic rock show I co-hosted at the radio station at U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay during the second deployment of my Army Guard career, I made it happen.

  5. Well, that weekend went way too fast. Might just sit here on deck and come up with some new lyrics to this one that reflect the real clusterfuck that is … everything these days. The possible items that could be mentioned are, unfortunately, fucking endless.

Somebody needs to know the time
    Glad that I'm here
Watching the skirts you start to flirt
    Now you're in gear
Go to a show you hope she goes
I've got nothing to say but it's okay

He went out tiger hunting with his elephant and gun
    In case of accidents
    He always took his mum
He's the all American bullet-headed Saxon mother's son
    All the children sing

    She said
“You don't understand what I said”
    I said
    “No, no, you're wrong
    When I was a boy
    Everything was right
    Everything was right
    I said
“Even though you know what you know
I know that I'm ready to leave
Cause you're making me feel like I've never been born.”

    Get your bearings
    Know your time
    Don't you worry
    Weather’s fine
All the world knows what I'm sayin'
All the world knows what I'm sayin'
    The world knows fine well
