  1. Gamemax GX-850 PRO:

PSU cables (16-pin) slowly backing out on their own – yellow part becomes visible reddit.com/r/MSI_Gaming/commen?

  9. computer PSUs need a new higher voltage rail to deal with e.g GPUs and other high power devices.

It may sound weird but a 50v rail would make things more efficient AND safer, AND would allow for further expansion more easily.

Because the thing that melts those 12v HPWR connectors isn't voltage. It's amps.

if we'd increase the voltage by 4x we decrease the current by 4x. Cable and connectors would get much less hot.

And it's easier to design efficient GaN power conversion

  14. It's 202(1,2,3,4,5,6) and NVIDIA's greatest innovation is convincing people that having a fire hazard so prevalent there is now an aftermarket of cable failure monitors is the pinnacle of a gaming PC build.

I am continuously befuddled by people spending the equivalent of several months of wages to potentially burn down their home.

  18. PC prediction, slightly going out on a limb: with 12VHPWR / 12V2x6 connectors still melting, PC power supplies and high-end GPUs will switch to using a higher voltage to feed the extremely power-hungry beasts. Probably 24V, but they could go higher.

With the cards already doing DC-DC conversion down to much lower voltages for the GPU and memory, there's no need to stick with 12V, and doubling the voltage will allow them to cut the current needed in half -- and since it's the high current levels that is causing all the thermal issues, it's an obvious fix.
