@vrandecic These kinds of example questions and their added constraints just brought back some memories of David Huynh's ancient, but incredible, Freebase Parallax demo/prototype from 16 years ago... Great to see Spinachbot somewhat going into this direction (even if without the UI parts)!

Coming to think of it, is there a clear path for us deploying a more real-time variant of our #Wikidata snapshot?

@leobard @vrandecic @Logological there's probably a whole bunch of #swig people here, @danbri @timbl
I nod along to a lot of @pluralistic 's threads

@mathias @vrandecic @nichtich Another option would be to make wikidata items ActivityPub agents with an inbox, followers etc. People could follow QIDs and the items could boost every toot that mentions them.
With @skohub we created a protoype of this approach making SKOS concepts #ActivityPub actors. Blog post: https://blog.skohub.io/2020-06-25-skohub-pubsub/ Recording of @literarymachine 's and my #swib19 talk: https://blog.skohub.io/2020-01-29-skohub-talk-at-swib19/

Just learned from @vrandecic 's presentation (https://videolectures.net/videos/iswc2025_nara_vrandecic_wikipedia_future) that there is a #wikidata #qlever interface mimicking the #WDQS gui. So here you've got native support for visualisations etc. -> https://wikidata-query-gui.scholia.wiki/
The interface has the drop-down-autocompletion function but no implicit PREFIXes, so you must add these on your own. Not a perfect replacement for WDQS but close.

🎂 Celebrating 20 years of #SemanticMediaWiki! Born in 2005 by @vrandecic and Markus Krötzsch, SMW has since then powered 1000s of knowledge bases around the world. Thank you to everyone who contributed code or otherwise! https://youtu.be/M5HoCqB6Fh0

I just learned about https://www.wikifunctions.org/ from @vrandecic at #swib24. Quite nice in itself, but the way these functions could be used to support LLMs in becoming better factual answering machines is where it gets really interesting. Thanks for a great keynote!

Denny Vrandencic is guiding us through the long history of Wikipedia and the Semantic Web in his brilliant keynote at #ISWC2025 from Aristotle to Wikifunctions, enabling an automatically generated (multilingual) Wikipedia also in lesser represented languages

Yesterday, I attended a workshop at the University of Stuttgart. One of the invited speakers, Denny Vrandečić (@vrandecic), showed us the challenges of multilingual knowledge, and a new project from the @wikimediafoundation, #Wikifunctions. Functions are knowledge, and sharing functions on the #Web can have an incredible impact (cc @royaheeee @yiyiyiyi). This is an really interesting topic, and I wonder how #SemanticWebServices and other techniques can help to automatically discover functions.

The key thing here is unambiguous denotation, using a #hyperlink.
Ultimately, we can all interpret as we see fit -- thanks to the underlying "horses for courses" nature of #HTTP based entity denotation.
As indicated, if you take the HTTP-based topic denotation route -- it leads to progressive and unobtrusive #KnowledgeGraph construction 😀

Croatia's entry is not a typical ESC song. The tattoos are historical: they were used to 'protect' women from non-Christian conquerors. I am a sucker for mythic motives, playing with fantasy themes; the polyharmonic singing. It's not the fun song of a young man leaving for the city and selling his cow, but a powerful folk-inspired anti-war ballad, deeply steeped in local history.
The video below gives the English lyrics.

Sie sagten ihrer Mutter
Kinder werde sie nie haben
Und als sie geboren wurde
Nannte ihre Mutter sie
DochSie sagten sie sei schwach
Und klein und krank
Und dass sie nicht
Lange zu leben habe
DochIhre Mutter hoffte
Das sie in einer Welt aufwuchs
In der alle gleich behandelt wurden
Aber leider
DochSie sagten Mathe und Autos
Seien nichts für Mädchen
Dass sie sich interessiert
Für Puppen und für Kleidung
Doch
