I watched the movie Wildwood, the new film from the studio Laika! It was amazing, beautiful, and pretty much everything I could have asked for in a film. I also really liked Prue as the main character.

#FediCoven Q16 Who are your familiars?
For me, it's absolutely the Eurasian jaybirds in my gardens. They're fun, mischievous creatures with a bit of a brutal side to them.
Perhaps it's because they're so temperamental that they're so good at communication. If they're displeased for any reason, the neighbourhood will be loudly informed. Though, I'm frequently the only one listening.
The jays are familiar presences to me but not pets or extraordinary magic spirits, but wild friends whose behaviour I observe and interpret. Their alarm, curiosity, or play invites me to pay attention to what’s happening around and within me. Which I then use in my practice.
Perhaps I'm reading too much into it. The world does seem significantly more at peace with an ample peanut supply, but isn't a certain symbiosis with other wild creatures magical? Does what we see in their behaviour not tell us a lot about our world and ourselves?
That is my idea of what a witch's familiar is. It's the creatures around you who make you see your own existence in a different light.
