  1. Installed Bitdefender Antivirus Plus on my Macs. The installer also added Bitdefender VPN, with no option to skip it. Adding software without the customer's consent is not an ideal practice.

Dragging the VPN app to the Trash fails, and even sudo gets "Operation not permitted": its self-protection guards the folder.

What works: open Bitdefender Uninstaller in /Applications/Bitdefender and select only the VPN.

Forum users report it can come back with updates 😬

  2. Avira, the antivirus founded in Germany, has belonged to the US group Gen Digital (Norton, Avast, AVG) since 2021. On macOS, Avira is easy to remove: just drag the app to the Trash! 👏

A launchd job watches the app path and runs an uninstall script when it goes.

Tip: use Finder, not rm, so its system extension goes too. Then delete the com.avira.* folders left in ~/Library/Caches and HTTPStorages.

  3. Tip for macOS with several screens: the Cmd-Tab app switcher only shows up on the screen with the Dock. A hidden setting shows it on all of them:

defaults write com.apple.dock appswitcher-all-displays -bool true
    killall Dock

To undo it, use defaults delete with the same domain and key.

Works very well with Claude Code. Every time the AI assistant or an agent request access to a resource requiring credentials, you get a 1Password prompt asking you to allow or deny access. I am doing it with the op CLI tool so the terminal or the assistant never sees the credentials. At least that is the theory 🙃

Hard to believe that in 2026 the ability to browse a compressed archive without extracting it is not a native macOS feature.
