@StephenRees I know that Steampunk was huge at the Goth club years ago. I still love the song Airship Pirates by the band #AbneyPark. That used to fill the dance floor.

The declining happiness factor of young people ...
It's not the crisis de jour.
It's not the social media. It's the heightened awareness of the plethora of crises we all have developed through the news and our social media feeds.
Solutions:
1. Ignorance (is bliss, so they say)
2. Eradicate the crises.
3. Change our approach. As long as we perpetuate the "us versus them" approach to life, the current outcomes will continue to spiral out of control.

Users of the 29th Avenue & Valley Drive bike routes will be pleased to know that (after much delay) the section of Nanton Avenue between Arbutus and Valley has this afternoon been blacktopped. There are now directional, segregated bike lanes with a narrow street for vehicles leaving no room for parking. Sidewalks along both sides are also behind boulevards. It is a very short length but essential. Opening for use must be imminent!

How B.C.'s property tax system delivers big benefits to multimillionaires, and why some say it needs to change
Anyone in B.C. who pays provincial income tax or sales taxes — including lower-income renters — helps cover the costs of this subsidy, which benefits some high-income homeowners in mansions
But many of those with the greatest need for the program do not even know about it, ...only an estimated 16 per cent of seniors defer their taxes.

I have just finished reading cory doctorow's @pluralistic "the bezel" In the acknowledgments he says that the greatest boon an author can receive is an honest reaction from one reader to another.
I strongly recommend that you read it. The library files it under fiction and while technically that might be reasonable this book positively hums with realism. I began to wonder if Cory indulges in some of the activities so carefully described here. But the book is not just about 1/n

In a shocking last-minute move, Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim cast a tie-breaking vote to reverse one of the city’s flagship climate policies – and allow polluting fossil gas heating in new buildings.
it’s not a done deal – the final decision is set for a vote on November 26th. If thousands of us flood City Council’s inboxes and phone lines calling on them to reverse this short-sighted decision,

"This week I visited Squamish, and after announcing the BC Greens’ landmark commitment to halting future investment in fossil fuel infrastructure, I went door knocking with Jeremy Valeriote. It seems to me that West Vancouver-Sea to Sky is ready to go Green!
This upcoming BC election is going to make history. With so many Greens and independents feeling strong support from their communities, we may end up with a balanced legislature -
