IMO PMMC is no better than PMSH - so much for being a Liberal.
#LINO - Liberal In Name Only

IMO PP is worse than PMSH.
Even if the Cons turfed PP they would still be Cons.

Are the FearlessFive all that is left of progressive MPs in Canada [outside of BQ]?

I really had to dig to find this stuff which is a real shame since the speech was delivered very well.

    From 2026-4-20

"NDP Public Safety Critic Jenny Kwan responds to Bill C-22"
    youtube.com/watch?v=yUy8kMvEXKg

Only 188 views when this video was found. 😞

    An extract from Hansard:
    jennykwanndp.ca/hansard_debate

I very much appreciate the effort but it's not enough considering what's at stake.

Most of the time the USA just ignores us so it must be fairly important when they actually take the time to send a letter.

"U.S. Congressional Leaders Warn Canadian Lawful Access Plans Harm U.S. National Security and Economic Interests"
    michaelgeist.ca/2026/05/u-s-co

Here is a copy of the letter

The letter is a diplomatic way of saying "Chuck that Farley".

IMO the witnesses are not given enough time to present thier perspective.
Bill C22 is being rammed through and the implications on every Canadian will be enormous.
I would like to see more time for all Canadians to digest the information [or lack thereof].

    David Fraser
"My Bill C-22 (Lawful Access) testimony to the Committee on Public Safety & National Security"
    youtube.com/watch?v=m9f2DIMiGVk

He recommends raising bar to "reason to believe"

IMO C22 needs to be killed and start over with many, many public consultations before any new legislation is written.

Yeah, just 5 MPs, MSM not so interested, not much committee time.
The electorate was not so kind.

Why is AL is the only one on Mastodon?

The #FearlessFive (as I would like to call them) could have used whatever social media they could access to inform the public about the tragedy C22 will become.
They could have issued some documents.

They could have done so much more!

    That's my point.

Fight like hell for bleep sake - Jack would have.
If preserving the Charter is not the most important issue to them then what is?

The only way back for the NDP is to PROVE to Canadians that they are going to fight like hell for this nation.
"We're only 5 MPs" isn't going to cut it - not fair but that's what it is.

MSM has largly ignored Bill C22 and the implications will be life changing.

IMO the Libs are engaging in misinformation and I'll never trust the Cons (after their spy Bill C30 in 2012)

BTW I prev sent a toot about turfing PMMC - not going to miss him when he returns to banking.

A great read from From 2026-3-19
"Is the Power to Preserve Everyone's Metadata Constitutional?"

Quote: "If the power to compel service providers to retain metadata does become law, and police make use of that data, persons accused of a crime will challenge the law. And when they do, it should be struck down."

    robertdiab.ca/posts/metadata-c

People will begin to speculate with questions like: What if the real intent was just to get certain pieces of spy-gear into telcos and keep monitoring even if a charter challenge fails (classify it under national security)?

How many people will believe that it could be plausible?
    Trust dies.

The people pushing C22 through are lawyers and should know that it would fail a charter challenge.
The libs are setting themselves up for a social media conspiracy thoery battle for the next election.
People will always remember when their charter rights are threatened.

I still remember a similar spy Bill C30 from 2012 and that was a mess.

Just checked #NDP AL feed on Mastodon - he's been leader for over a month and there hasn't been one toot about Bill C22.

Maybe Charter Rights are not a big issue with the NDP?
One might suspect that Charter rights would be a very important issue for the NDP.

Second reading happened 2026-4-20, at least one NDPer must have voted then.
MPs can vote by phone app anywhere in Canada.

    Did anyone tell him?

I cannot find any NDP MPs on Mastodon.

Did any NDP MPs speak to the media about Bill C22?

  16. #KillBillC22 #StopBillC22 #BillC22 #CdnPoli

Earlier today I searched through all of the audio segments I could find at CBC "As It Happens" and "The Current" radio shows and I could not find anything about BillC22.

There was a small number of web page posts at cbc.ca/news about the bill.

IMO the public was not well informed about Bill C22.

Maybe that is what the gov wanted?

I do not regularily check the parliament web pages for new legislation.

I found out accidently via an odd post on Mastodon that managed to get enough boots to make it into the general feed.

I believe C22 should be delayed until more people have time to consider the consequences.
IMO if more people know what was in the bill that there would be more outrage.

I think the lack of proper notice is grounds to take more time, especially in the Senate (if it gets there).

If C22 passes as is then we might never fully recover all of the Charter rights and freedoms we had in 2025.

I feel betrayed by the PMMC government.

Would it be possible to have a similar campaign for Canadians to automatically send letters to our senators?

Much more work for you but it might be worth a shot.

I'm concerned about the lower number of participants now that PMMC has a majority and seems determined to ram through bills with minimal debate and public scrutiny.

In 2012 there were public protests against (similar) Bill C30.
However in 2012 there wasn't a daily fire hose of batsh*t crazy coming out of the WH.

What about a campaign to send emails to members of provincial assemblies?

If there was enough interest then perhaps enough provinces would invoke the not-withstanding section until the results of a supreme-court challenge are known.

I'm also concerned that Bill C22 is going to encourage separatist movements.
