Listened to a Big Star album for an upcoming blog post and honestly all I hear is Elliott Smith. They're indelibly linked in my mind since I first heard their music through his covers, and Elliott's singing style is quite similar.

Guess Tokarczuk's comments struck a nerve enough that she's issued a statement today. Not sure it changes how I feel about her initial comments, tbh, but that's just me. Okay, I'm going to stop tooting about this now and go read...

Le sigh. Olga Tokarczuk says her upcoming novel will be her last, but she also says she used genAI to help her write it. (Article in Polish.)

It's kinda trippy re-reading a book I first read in my early 30s that I know I absolutely loved and yet retained nothing of into my early 40s. It's almost equally rediscovering the story and rediscovering this other version of myself as I'm trying to see what that version loved about the story so much.

ordered brightly striped PJ pants that turned out to be way nicer than expected IRL, thinking about making them my new personality and wearing everywhere...

Underworld keeps posting random tracks on their Bandcamp...new album coming?

I managed to stir a new jar of natural peanut butter in the time it took for my ramen noodles to cook. Don't let anyone tell you your dreams are impossible.

There were a couple tiny hints of the direction the band was going in on the album previous to this, but this EP was the real start of the 'horror punk' era that made me fall in love AFI. I particularly love the cover of The Cure's "The Hanging Garden".

sometimes I just think about the way Michael Stipe moves his arms and hands and whatnot in the “Losing My Religion” video

Fuck I want to see AFI again. This song made me totally cringe the 1st time I heard it because of the electronic/industrial breakdown (a new sound for an AFI album at the time), but I love it now. I feel Davey's screaming at the end so viscerally, can't hear it without picturing him performing it live.

I feel like this album should've been on some AOTY lists last year, but I don't recall seeing it. Collab between Polish cellist/composer Karolina Rec aka Resina and Paris-based electronic musician Niamké Désiré aka Aho Ssan. Very brooding and cinematic.
