@BajoranEngineer I did not finish answering your question about Mayor Michelle Wu over dinner, but the short reason for my grimace at mention of her name is that she's done a U-turn (as advocates are calling it) on mobility policy.
She trounced her opponent Josh Kraft (of the Kraft dynasty) in last year's primary, but now her Streets Cabinet are implementing what looks an awful lot like Kraft's policy of not really doing much but hiding it all under the tired rationale of "if only we could get more community input". It's not so far gone that a recovery can't be done (and I very much hope I'm wrong!), but it really reads to me like she's moving herself towards the center to pursue higher ambitions at the city's expense.

@bitprophet There's a handful of posts on #PyCon and #PyConUS2026 but it looks like the official one this year is #PyConUS, they called it out during the first welcome session.
-
During the welcoming this morning at #PyconUS it was mentioned that after the talks finish on Sunday, the sprints take place on Monday and Tuesday. I'd definitely recommend checking them out and I'm interested in seeing how many more people are there this year.
If you'd like to see what projects have already signed up to sprint, check out https://us.pycon.org/2026/events/dev-sprints/

After the opening keynote at #PyConUS2026 you can check out some #PyConUSOpenSpaces before the talks start at 11am. The keynote runs until 10:30am but some of these open spaces may start earlier. You're usually fine popping in mid-way, so maybe enjoy the keynote?

I plan to continue my tradition of spreading the word about #PyConUSOpenSpaces at #PyConUS2026 this year. I hope everyone has a lovely PyCon and if you're interested in getting automated notifications when new open spaces are published, check out @pycon_open_spaces which should be operating again.
To kick it off, someone set up an open space before the first keynotes this year. Starting at 08:00 AM:
Room 102C: GeoData Show & Tell / Meetup

@scalzi Times are changing. When I was little, there was no green lady or animal friends. There was a fruity werewolf, though.
I was in Pittsburgh a couple months ago for #PyConUS2024. I stopped by the Andy Warhol museum, where they had a really cool window display of the original General Mills monster triumvirate.

Has anyone contributed to #pyvideo recently and can give me a hand?
I found Jim's #PyConUS2024 #py5 talk: https://pyvideo.org/pycon-us-2024/creative-coding-with-py5-the-python-version-of-processing.html
And found some tutorials, but mine is missing and I'd like to add it (and found the instructions a bit daunting).

@treyhunner, thanks for suggesting this. I had hoped I'd see Guido speaking when I was at #PyConUS2024 in Pittsburgh, but I didn't even see him around the conference. Somebody told me he was there. (The closest I came to seeing him was the standee.) Videos of his past talks, like this one, make up for that. I've certainly not seen them all, so it's a little like seeing new talks from him, on demand. (I think he wouldn't do in person.)

@leahawasser @pyOpenSci I regret missing the talk(s) about packaging while I was at #PyConUS2024. I'll look for them online. When will videos appear on PyCon's YouTube profile?

@rennerocha @pycon I stand corrected! https://us.pycon.org/2024/speaking/guidelines/ says tutorials should be on YouTube in June.
And there were tutorials in earlier years, for example:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2Uw4_HvXqvY2zhJ9AMUa_Z6dtMGF3gtbI think I mixed up the livestream, which didn't include tutorials :)

@rennerocha @pycon No, only the regular talks and keynotes were recorded and will be available. Not the sponsored talks or summits, although I think the typing summit made ad-hoc recordings.

So #DuckDB was all he rage at #pyconus2024
Using the JSON blobs output by @kensanata's awesome mastodon-archiver.
Let's give it a whirl!
Huh! This looks promising!
Now to get some sleep, but tomorrow I will have a good play with learning how to do subqueries on the various fields. Pretty amazing even just with these 2 invocations though! It slurped in the JSON and offered it up as fully structured data with all the fields identified. Swank! :)
