I am... not entirely sure what an 8 back would feel like but I suspect that I am going to need to heap the cushions on.
... hm. okay. The #Sabai rep said that the seat cushions on the 86" are 1.8 lbs/cubic inch density and 28 firmness. If I'm understanding this correctly, the 28 is the foam's #ILD rating. The foam I bought from Joann for replacement cushioning has an ILD score of 36, so it's somewhat firmer.

In fairness, I know #explodingheadsyndrome is harmless. I've read a lot of disturbing medical stuff in the past for fun and #EHS is specifically cited in most of the things I've read as 'scary name, harmless problem'. But man, that is *not* a first screen I think most people would want to see.

Also, while I haven't been able to assemble my #Sabai couch- there was a shipping error with one of the parts and they're sending a replacement- my cat has decided she approves of the not-yet-slipcovered cushions.

After reading Bloomberg's article about the fast-fashionization of couches- https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2024-06-24/couches-don-t-last-as-long-thanks-to-shipping-costs-fashion-trends - I decided I was going to go ahead and replace my couch with the #Sabai #evergreen sofa.
Before I could place the order they announced their 5-year anniversary sale, 15% off anything over $500, so... yeah. Good time to purchase the most expensive piece of furniture I've ever bought.
We'll see how this goes.

The reviews I've read from #Sabai buyers indicate that Sabai is better about including tools than #ikea I've assembled my kitchen table, my coffee table, my bookcase, and much of my bed frame (it was delivered partly assembled but without stain or varnish, so I had to do the furniture finish work first and then put the various half-made bits together).

Looking into the #furniture situation a little further.
I live in a third floor walkup. The #Sabai couch will be shipping in multiple boxes if I order one, and according to various reviews I've seen, each box should be light enough for one person to get up a basic flight of stairs but will be much easier to move if I have some assistance. This is fine. However:

9/10 of what I've heard about #sabai couches has been great and most of the rest has applied to people having trouble with putting them together. The only reviews I've read for them that mention smell have said that they smelled like whatever wood was used in construction, nothing chemical or weird. I'm good with that. The slipcovers are supposed to be easy to clean and highly resistant to pet damage. I ordered one of their lumbar cushions as a test run. Feels like a decent piece of work. 3/7
