The first step of getting rid of the Japanese knotweed infestation on our property is complete! Two more treatments left. Fuck I hate this plant so much.

Last spring I gave up on dual displays because it was a hassle, and switched to a single ultrawide display, which I love
That left me with an unused display arm. What to do?
I found a VESA tablet mount and set up an iPad in SideCar mode as an auxiliary display for glance-able tools, etc

Getting people to try new things is incredibly hard, even when the old thing sucks and they hate it.
No one I’ve managed to convince to *try* @kagihq has switched back after trying it out. Not one person. That’s insane.
The hard part is getting people to try it even once, EVEN AFTER THEY’VE SAID THEY HATE GOOGLE. Like…so many people I know *hate* what it has become, but they’d rather keep using Google than try out something new *one week*.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

On snap. I’d totally forgotten the Voodoo cards were add-on cards that couldn’t do 2D. They used a pass through the voodoo sat inline between your vga card and your monitor. When a game triggered 3D mode via Glide, the Voodoo literally hijacked the wire and sent its own signal to your monitor. Presumably your 2D card was still pumping out Windows desktop or whatever, but that signal was just being discarded. That’s fucking wild.
And that doesn’t even get into SLI where two voodoo cards would take turns drawing every other scan line.

Nope I was wrong. Sony 1994:
> The term "GPU" was coined by Sony in reference to the 32-bit Sony GPU (designed by Toshiba) in the PlayStation video game console, released in 1994.

lol I had a 3dfx card before nvidia ever *made* a gpu. I believe Voodoo cards were the first 3D graphics accelerators as we think of them today, at least for PCs[1].
I seem to recall that *maybe* nvidia coined the term GPU? I know they weren’t called that at the start.
[1] #SiliconGraphics was doing fancy stuff way before PCs of course

You absolutely should do this and you shouldn’t feel bad.
You’ve paid into this your whole adult life. It’s your money.
I’ve done it. I wasn’t even a W2 employee. I’d been self employed and my primary contract didn’t get renewed.
I had to have an awkward phone call with a state unemployment representative, but then I drew #unemployment for two months while *working full time* studying for, applying for, and interviewing for jobs.
Do not feel bad about doing this. You’re not a bad person. You’re not lazy or greedy. It’s your money.

If you know someone that's going through some shit, but don't really know what to say or are worried about bringing up a difficult topic, just reach out and say: hey, thinking of you.
They’ll take it from there.
Do it now. Life is short.

oh sweet baby jesus there's finally a #vscode / #vscodium extension that chmod +x scripts on save if they start with a shebang.
I used a plugin for sublime text years ago that did this, but every time I checked there was no equivalent for vscode. looks like this was first published about 7 months ago
