“Eyes! Red, beady eyes!” she exclaimed, stopping and pointing.
They responded by chittering.
“Rats,” I cawed. “The dog-sized one in the center is magical.” First the big-billed crows, then the cat, and now these rodents. Osakabe-hime sure enjoyed collecting endowed retainers.
“I hate rats!”
“They’re just featherless pigeons! Ack, ack…”
Mistress wasn’t laughing!
“But rats! Let’s find another way,” she said, descending a step.
That would be a major #hiccup in our plans. Kyūso might be magical, but they were only moderately dangerous to humans. No, I couldn’t let Glitter Glinda abandon the yellow-brick road.
I didn’t give myself time to enjoy my magnificent joke; instead, I launched myself forward, screaming: “Caw, cawwwka, kaka, shoo, scram, flee my terrible wrath!”
