  1. RE: hachyderm.io/@freexian/1165550

It was certainly an interesting cooperation between developers and sysadmin to get rid of the performance issues we faced! debusine.debian.net is becoming a non-trivial deployment where scaling issues can create real usability issues for end-users.

This new #Debusine feature is a significant addition for #Debian developers: it applies to all QA tasks (lintian, piuparts, autopkgtest, blhc, …) and is very fine-grained in what it reports. For example, if you have 3 tests in autopkgtest, two of which are currently failing, and you now have only one failing in your new upload, it's shown as an improvement. And the opposite works: if you have one more tests failing, it's a regression.

It's really useful to discover problems that your package upload is introducing, simply by filtering out failures that are due to something else.

Hiring your first dedicated sales manager in a company composed of technical experts is a significant challenge, but one that we are willing to tackle. If you know someone with that profile, and who values free software and #Debian, please reach out to them and share this offer to work at #Freexian.

  8. I have an old HP #Laserjet printer, so old that it passed the 10 year mark of its embedded TLS certificate on January 1st 2026. And #cups refused to connect to with a "cups-pki-expired" reason and it would then stop the printer.

Thanks to blog.whalan.com/2025/solving-c I could figure out a way forward. I could regenerate the certificate on the printer. But then this was not sufficient since cups would then complain that the certificate sent back by the device differed to the certificate it had in its local store. It turns out that this store is /etc/cups/ssl/ and it was easy to identify which file to remove there.

And since the printer is stopped/paused, and we have no practical GUI to unpause it in #GNOME, it was easier to remove the printer and let cups-browsed recreate it.

First new year problem solved !

This is the culmination of one year of work in the #Debusine team and certainly a game changer in the #Debian community. Now we will build on this to make it possible to prepare large transitions in Debusine repositories, with all packages to be uploaded together when the entire set is ready and validated.

  10. Having a great time at #Debconf25. Many of us at @freexian are there too. Come and say hi!
As a gold sponsor, we are proud to support such an amazing event where Debian developers can work face to face, exchange ideas, and get some motivation boost!
BTW, in a few hours, on Tuesday 15th at 10:30, we showcase how #Debusine helps you to prepare packages for Debian (but it also works for companies and Debian derivatives).

  11. Just stumbled on this article explaining how superhuman improved their product by focusing on feedback from users who would be disappointed if superhuman were to disappear. A bit long, but an interesting read. Can we apply this to #debian or #debusine ? Would be curious to know what the result would be in terms of benefits that people identify to their use of Debian.

  12. During the mini debconf Toulouse, the #debusine team ran a very nice demo of a workflow that starts with a #debian source package, builds it on 4 architectures, runs lintian/autopkgtest/piuparts on all those architectures and then uploads the source package to Debian's incoming queue after having received the signature from the developer. Already available to all debian developers on debusine.debian.net!
