    They already have your emails, your photos, your location. Now they want your phone number too, just to unlock storage that should have been free to begin with.

    This is exactly why i moved away from Google services. Every "free" thing comes with a price, and that price is always your data.

    Nextcloud, ProtonDrive, or just a simple VPS. There are better options out there.
