  5. This weeks work included having to understand how mass spectrometers using 25 year old software work and how to create a secure environment and provide safe access to information resources without updating any OS.

When people ask what I do, I just say stuff cause half the time I don’t even know.

I have never seen the space and the last time I spoke to an engineer we had to troubleshoot an issue while they had on full safety equipment and respiratory gear!

There's something freeing about not doing #careers.

No single industry will dictate our path. We won't feel limited to only* applying for certain #jobs or roles.

Gotta be willing* to pivot. Don't insist on staying in 1 area.

    For me, it's better to be a #JackOfAllTrades than a long-time master* at something that doesn't cover our needs + comfort. #work #employment #gigs

Well.. let’s say I’m just never an expert. But I tried 🥹 Maybe I was being too hard on myself? -as always.

Anyway.. It was one of the pictures I made with charcoal and chalk. Need a lot more practice definitely.

  11. #followbackfriday is a thing here? Cool.

I'm a #techie who's spent my life building/fixing #computers, writing #code, reluctantly providing #techsupport to the masses. Recently picked up #DragRacing and performance #tuning. #JackOfAllTrades and master of some. I think I'm funny. Or an idiot. Depends on the day really.

  12. In my current project I'm forced to work with increasingly more and more AI-generated ("agentic") code. And I must say this is job security incarnate. It creates verbose code that looks right, but actually has subtle bugs, and it creates it in such volumes that it's gonna take *a lot* of time to make right. It's like Ruby on Rails all over again: a protyping tech that people are gonna take and build production systems with, creating mountains of legacy code.

I think the biggest problem this game has right now is actually the way that it's usually talked about, and the expectations set by that rhetoric. (...) I think this hurts more than it helps -- not only because people aren't likely to pick up a game they can't even get an elevator pitch for, but also because this is actually a really particular and niche game that absolutely will not appeal to everyone.

  19. It's clear developers packed a lot here, with so many side activities available like fishing, raids, crafting, metroidvania-style traversal tools, etc., but nothing really wowed me.

OK, maybe one exception would be this fight with Io, where I had to switch stances to match the enemy, and the boss used different attacks based on the stance it was in. That was very cool. If only combat encounters were this engaging throughout the rest of the game!

  20. Finished Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana.

It was fine, if mediocre in many aspects. The story was a bit of a mess, and the storytelling lacked finesse. Characters were one-dimentional, but charming. Combat was visually impressive, but quite shallow and quickly became stale. Exploration was similarly unremarkable, with many treasures to find, but mostly no challenge required to reach them.

Normal people have mastered the art of the cope. In order to survive and reproduce in this life, many conscious living beings have to kill, harm, or exploit other organisms to fulfill their needs. Humans on the other hand have to not only do this but they must also remain consciously life affirming or they wouldn't be motivated to continue reproducing.
